From next week, I'll be starting my Miyazaki Prefecture series, beginning with Japan's old maglev train tracks.

You can actually check out the old testing center and get pretty close to the tracks.

In Japan, there are different types of "train fans". I think these 4 are the common types.

1. 撮り鉄 (Toritetsu): the photo fans. Their focus is photographing trains.

2. 乗り鉄 (Noritetsu): the riding fans. Their goal is to ride as many lines as possible.

3. 音鉄 (Ototetsu): the sound fans. They record train sounds and announcements.

4. 模型鉄 (Mokeitetsu): the model fans. They collect miniature train models.

I think I'm noritetsu (the riding fan). Which one are you?
