📝 29% use AI weekly to draft text for assignments.
❌ 21% never or almost never use AI for schoolwork.

AI is great for explaining difficult concepts and generating ideas—but how we use it shapes how we learn.

In a world of short posts, fast searches, and instant answers, are we becoming faster readers—or simply less patient readers?

Between 2018 and 2025, the average OECD reading score fell by 25 points, from 488 to 463. At the same time, the share of “hasty” responses—answers that were both fast and incorrect—nearly doubled, reaching about 9%.

The OECD suggests this may reflect changes in students’ ability to sustain attention and engage carefully with demanding texts. However, the data do not point to one simple cause.
