The Annapolis Fall Reception of the Ocean Cruising Club (OCC) was held last night at the headquarters of Chesapeake Regional Accessible Boating (CRAB). Speakers for the evening were YouTubers, Jade and Brett Evans, of Expedition Evans, who gave an informative and entertaining presentation on their experience using a 3D printer as a useful tool for cruising.

Matt Rutherford, of Ocean Research Project, just back from Arctic voyaging, also gave an entertaining talk about his adventures.

Thanks to Patty Moss and Peter Farkas of SV Serendipitous for organizing a great evening.

It was so nice catching up with fellow ocean cruisers while we are in town for the Annapolis Boat Shows.

Yesterday, midway to Eleuthera from Nassau in the Bahamas, we realized our knot log was clogged since we were not getting a reading for our speed-through-the-water or the ship’s log, both necessary for navigation. Since we were planning a one-week offshore passage to Bermuda we needed to rectify this.

So we stopped the boat.

Conditions were very calm so Paul pulled on his dive gear and jumped over the side into the beautifully clear water with a brush to clear the impeller.

Our crew member, Eric, a fellow videographer and photographer, followed the whole process from the deck with his underwater camera on a pole.

With a bit of scrubbing, Paul was able to free up the impeller and we were immediately back in business.

Bermuda here we come! 🇧🇲

This week the new design for Distant Shores IV was officially released at the Toronto International Virtual Boat Show (TIBS) - a Distant Shores version of the Orion 49 designed by Kees van de Stadt of Satellite Yacht Design, to be built by Gebroeders van Enkhuizen in the Netherlands!
