One of the biggest things I’ve learned working with children and families is this:

Not every traumatised child looks traumatised.

Sometimes trauma hides behind behaviours adults struggle to understand.

The angry child.
The child constantly getting into trouble.
The child who refuses school.
The child who lies.
The child everyone labels as “difficult.”

But behaviour is often communication.

Sometimes, underneath the behaviour is fear, rejection, anxiety, grief, instability, bullying, loss, neglect, family stress, or simply a child struggling to feel emotionally safe.

This doesn’t mean boundaries disappear.

But understanding behaviour differently can completely change how we respond to children.

Instead of asking:

“What is wrong with this child?”

Maybe we ask:

“What happened to this child?”

And honestly?

That one question can change everything.
