VERSE OF THE DAY
(June 10, 2026)
2 Timothy 2:23 KJV
But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
This verse teaches believers to avoid arguments that do not lead to spiritual growth or biblical truth.
1. Avoid Useless Religious Arguments
Paul was not telling Timothy to avoid honest questions. Instead, he was warning against debates that are based on speculation, pride, or a desire to argue.
Application:
Don't spend your time arguing about matters that Scripture does not clearly reveal.
Focus on teaching and learning God's Word rather than winning debates.
2. Guard Your Christian Testimony
Constant arguing can damage a believer's witness or testimony.
Application:
Be known for grace, wisdom, and truth rather than being argumentative.
When discussing doctrine, speak with humility and respect.
3. Recognize That Foolish Controversies Produce Strife
The verse says such questions "gender strifes" (produce quarrels).
Application:
Before entering a discussion, ask:
• Will this glorify God?
• Will this help someone grow spiritually?
• Will this promote unity and truth?
If the answer is no, it may be best to avoid the argument.
4. Focus on Gospel Ministry
Many distractions can pull Christians away from the Great Commission.
Application:
Invest your energy in evangelism, discipleship, prayer, and service rather than endless online debates or controversies.
5. Be Teachable, Not Contentious
We emphasize the authority of Scripture. A teachable spirit is more valuable than a combative spirit.
Application:
Seek biblical answers with a sincere heart.
Be willing to learn from God's Word rather than argue merely to defend personal opinions.
"Not every question deserves a debate, and not every debate deserves your participation."
Christians should stand firmly for biblical truth, but avoid foolish controversies that create division and hinder the work of God. This is especially relevant today in social media discussions, church disputes, and endless doctrinal arguments that produce more heat than light.
