This is Rye, a new Austrian bakery in SoHo, selling 3lbs loaves of organic rye sourdough for $60 a piece. Crafted by third-generation baker Martin Auer using imported Austrian rye flour, water, and salt, with each loaf fermented for 24 hours and baked for 70 minutes in a German oven before resting for 8 more hours.

Owner Tim Auer says the price reflects the handmade craftsmanship and NYC’s sky-high costs. While artisanal sourdough typically costs under $20 in the city, customers can also grab quarter-loaves for $15, half for $30, or topped sliced for $6-$14.

The opening has sparked online backlash, but loaves are flying off the shelves. But are they really worth it?

SpaceX's IPO at $1.8 trillion valuation makes Elon Musk, already the world's richest man, the world's first trillionaire.

To put this in perspective, a trillion dollars is an equivalent to about $27 million per day for a century, or 2.2 billion pounds in one-dollar bills that would require 10,000 SpaceX Starship flights to put into orbit.

Before the IPO, Musk was worth an estimated $813 billion, a fortune more than twice as large as the planet's second-richest person, Google co-founder Larry Page, who is worth an estimated $288 billion. Nonetheless, there's a caveat: while Musk's wealth is at least on paper, he could fall below the trillionaire threshold if the stock sinks.

The question now isn't whether Musk is the richest person on the planet, it's how far his wealth will climb from here.

The Musk vs. Altman trial is officially underway in Oakland, California, and it’s already one for the history books.

Elon Musk took the stand Tuesday as the first witness, arguing that OpenAI’s founders “stole a charity” by converting the nonprofit he co-founded in 2015 into a for-profit company now valued at $852 billion.

Musk is asking the court to:
→ Force OpenAI back into nonprofit status
→ Remove Altman and Brockman from their roles
→ Award ~$130 billion in damages back to OpenAI’s nonprofit foundation

As to OpenAI’s defense, Musk is only suing because he’s now a direct competitor, and that he actually pushed for a for-profit structure himself.

The judge also reprimanded Musk before proceedings began for posting about the trial 24+ times on X the night before. He agreed to scale it back.

The trial is expected to last 3 weeks. Altman, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and key OpenAI researchers are all expected to testify in court.

Meta is gearing up for one of the biggest rounds of job cuts in its history.

The social media giant announced this week that it will lay off approximately 8,000 employees, representing about 10% of its global workforce of nearly 79,000, with the first wave set to hit on May 20, 2026. The company also confirmed it will not be filling around 6,000 open roles it had previously planned to hire for. Additional rounds of layoffs are expected in the second half of the year, though the exact scope and timing of those cuts have not yet been finalized.

What makes this round stand out is that it is not being driven by financial trouble. Meta posted record revenue of $201 billion in 2025, up 22% year over year, with fourth quarter net income reaching $22.8 billion. Instead, the cuts are part of a deliberate restructuring tied to the company's massive pivot toward artificial intelligence. Meta has set aside between $115 and $135 billion in capital expenditure for 2026, nearly double what it spent the previous year, with the bulk going toward data centers, GPUs, and AI infrastructure.

The layoffs will reach across Reality Labs, the Facebook app, Instagram, WhatsApp, recruiting, sales, and global operations. This latest round is not the first time Meta has made major cuts. Since 2022, the company has eliminated roughly 25,000 positions total, including 11,000 in late 2022 and another 10,000 in 2023 during what CEO Mark Zuckerberg famously called the "Year of Efficiency."
