Why is making friends after 50 so hard? 😂
Making new friends as an adult feels completely different than it did when we were younger.
You meet another woman you really like. The conversation is great. You have things in common. And then suddenly you're wondering...
Do I ask for her number?
Do I text first?
Should I suggest coffee?
And when she says, “We should definitely get together,” did she mean actually get together...or was that just grown-woman language for “This was lovely, have a nice life”? 😂
Because somehow making friends in your 50s feels suspiciously like dating.
And I think there's more to it than simply finding places to meet people. Midlife friendship comes with history. We've lived enough life to be more selective about who we trust, who gets access to us, and which relationships we actually have the energy to maintain.
At this age, I don't necessarily need more people in my life.
I want the right people in my life.
So tell me: Does making a new friend after 50 feel a little like dating to you too? And when was the last time you made a genuinely new friend?
