As the MegalithHunter, I explore my fascination with the megalith builders. These prehistoric ancients are in many ways still a mystery to us. To get a better understanding of them, I also look at what came before and what came after, as well as researching contemporary cultures who didn't build megalithic monuments at all! If you love learning about the ancient past as much as I do, join me as I explore sites and look at the research into them.
I have an M.A. in Mediterranean Studies so I'm not an archaeologist or a historian but I do use my qualifications to present information using academic sources only. These are noted in the description of each video. The goals of this channel are: to educate, to entertain and to elucidate. Let's have some fun. Join the live chats during my premieres and feel free to start some conversations in the comments. Enjoy! Laura

Hey all!
I recently visited Sagunto north of Valencia in Spain which was pretty spectacular. Although, as usual, the best stuff was all the way up a steep hill :)
It was known as Arse in the Iron Age and then became famous during the Second Punic War between Rome and Carthage. The Romans eventually defeated Carthage and took control of the region, renaming the settlement Saguntum.
Most of what can be seen on the top of the hill today is a medieval castle but lots of Roman buildings have been excavated there as well, and the local musuems display plenty of Roman finds. The Roman amphitheatre was refurbished and is now used for performances.

Hey there!
You're probably wondering why I'm so quiet since I've been quite prolific with my uploads this summer. Well, I was travelling around Spain and Italy recently where I planned to do a few posts but the wifi at the campsites was a bit iffy. Then I came home, got sick and lost my voice so wasn't able to film my scripts either :)
It will be a few days before I can film but here are some photos from one incredible place I visited - Civita di Bagnoregio. This town started out as an Etruscan settlement but most of the architecture that remains today is from the Middle Ages.
Some of the Etruscan tombs have been turned into a small museum displaying old agricultural equipment. There's also an Etruscan tunnel which is not currently open to the public. This was used as another way of accessing the town from the valley below. The Romans also left their mark on the town and due to it's location and fragile topography, access routes have changed quite a bit over the years. As you can see there's now a modern walkway.
I took the main photo from the sister part of the town - Bagnoregio - which is an interesting place in itself. That's where you park before you start the climb down and then up again. I'm not sure my photos really capture just how amazing this place is. I was speechless, just like I am now, but for a different reason hehe.

Hi there everyone :)
I was in Lazio this past week. Here are a few pics from Rome and Lake Nemi. Of course I wanted to go to Museum of Roman Ships at Lake Nemi but it's closed for refurbishment.
I just filmed a video that will go out on Saturday. Any guesses what it's on? But in the meantime I would like your suggestions on how to present news items / discoveries...
What I find is that most of the 'latest news' stories are not connected to a published paper and therefore there isn't enough information on them to create a long-form video.
If you've been with my channel for a while you know that I used to pile the news stories into one video with one main headline piece for the thumbnail. However, people complained that the leading story was only featured for a short time before I moved on to others.
So, this week I'm featuring 3 news stories as separate short videos. I'm still in two minds as to whether I do them in vertical format so they appear in shorts feeds or my regular horizontal format. Horizontal format means I can put a thumbnail. My shorts videos never really do well. But if i put shorter videos in horizontal format I don't want my audience to think I'm simplifying my content overall. This is in addition to my usual videos, not in place of them. What do you all think?
Maybe I will try it one way this week and a different way next week :) :)

Today I visited Villa Adriana near Tivoli east of Rome. I've been meaning to get there for a long time but every time I'm in Rome I get a bit busy. It was absolutely incredible! This one post cannot possibly share how amazing the archaeological park is.
There are the remains of around thirty buildings over an extensive area, and a fair bit hasn't been excavated yet - so you can imagine just how vast this place is. It wasn't that busy. Plenty of parking, no queues (like Pompeii or any of the sites in central Rome) - and I'm shocked because it should be more popular!
I fully recommend a visit to Villa Adriana, and also Parco archeologico di
Ostia Antica which I visited last year and was also so impressive.

I stayed in Gozo over the weekend and spent some time at the Ġgantija Archaeological Park which is the site of two megalithic temples, and at the Ġnien Ta' Blankas, an olive grove with ancient 'cart ruts.'
Ġgantija was really busy so I didn't get many pictures as I was trying to avoid having people in them 😂 Perhaps it's time for another video on Ġgantija? My last one was before I improved my sound quality (which I know is still not perfect, working on it...)
Here is a link to the last video I did on the Maltese cart ruts: https://youtu.be/Kxx2Su0TiPw
Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone 😃

Clovis First?
Last week a new paper came out which challenges the dating of the pre-Clovis Monte Verde II site in Chile. This is obviously huge news. Here's a link to the paper:

My friend @davidianhowe has created a video with a useful summary of the research and an interview with lead author Dr. Todd Surovell, professor of anthropology at the University of Wyoming.

If you're interested in the peopling of the Americas then this is a brilliant video.
In other news, I'm filming later so expect something from me on Upper Palaeolithic 'proto-writing' tomorrow :)

Happy New Year everyone!
I try to always post community messages with some photos so here are a few more from my trip to Ostia Antica back in September.
Lots of new features have appeared in YouTube so my 2026 New Year's resolution is to use a few more of them, especially collabs with other fantastic YT friends.
None of it is possible without views so thank you to those of you who watch, comment, moderate, support and send ideas.
This year some high points were @HistoryWithKayleigh and @TravelDan visiting (not together lol) and I appeared on @smitinathan 's new podcast and got to chat on one of @FlintDibble's livestreams. As usual I have to thank Mike at @MindEscapePodcast for being a tremendous support in my content journey.
I would also like to shout out Travel Dan's second channel @AviationMuseumsoftheWorld and Mike's second channel @MastersofRhetoric Great projects!!!
Wishing you all a wonderful and healthy 2026. I try not to focus too hard on the whole year, but on having beautiful little moments within it.

Hello everyone :)
Just got back from the archaeological park of Ostia Antica, the ancient port of Rome. A really impressive site. Here are a few photos including a bath complex, a mithraeum and a theatre. I have been to Rome many times but had never visited this site so was amazed at how much of it survives. It's very extensive and reminds me of Pompeii.
New videos are in the works including some shorts. The next video will be on the expansion of farming in Neolithic Europe. If there are any topics you are interested in, let me know. Don't forget public posting is now enabled in my community so if you want to share some articles or other comments on history-related subjects go for it.
