I remember when I was in college and I had a homegirl that always had on different outfits like I never saw her in the same things whether it was something like dressed up or dressed down she always had on something different. One day we were going out and I came in her apartment to wait for her to get ready She changed outfits like three times and I was like how are you doing it and she was like what do you mean?I’m like how do you have so many clothes like are you rich? 🧐 and she said “no, every time I get paid or anytime I get some money I buy myself at least one thing” it could be a purse some shoes, some pants, a shirt a dress and outfit doesn’t matter - she would just buy herself at least one thing. I was befuddled because growing up I was never taught to do things for myself on a regular basis. Shit always had to be a special occasion. We only got new shit when school was about to start.Or when it was Easter Sunday and you needed a new dress. Mind you we weren’t broke. I was just being raised by someone who didn’t do that for me so I was conditioned to not do that for myself. It took some time but i finally got better at doing small things for me like getting a new item just because or trying that new place with no occasion to celebrate. I eventually started treating myself to more and allowing myself to just have shit.Now I am just like that friend. Forever in a new something. Now I have to tell myself no it’s not in the budget 🫶🏾😂
