Too Many Mutual Funds? More Funds Don’t Always Mean More Diversification.
Many investors hold 10, 15, or even 20+ mutual funds thinking they’re reducing risk. But if the same stocks appear across multiple schemes, you may simply be creating portfolio overlap not diversification.
For example, owning HDFC Bank through six different funds doesn’t give you six different exposures. It gives you repeated exposure to the same stock.
In this video, I break down how to identify over-diversification, why chasing trending themes like defence and consumer funds can backfire, and how a simple 5-fund, goal-based portfolio can make investing easier to manage and explain.
The goal isn’t to own more funds. The goal is to build a portfolio that makes sense.
