Hello! My name is Sheff, this is where I post videos of me playing games. In meatspace I'm a data scientist, and I like to take a thoughtful, analytical approach to the strategy and tactics of the games that I play. Expect lots of guides, tips, walkthroughs, and other similar content.

The best way to keep up with stuff that I'm doing is to subscribe here and ensure that notifications are ON. I don't have a regular upload schedule currently, but it's usually one video every week or so. If you'd like a more regular schedule, the best way to tell me is to subscribe, as I use that number to decide how much time I invest in this hobby. :)

I am an ArenaNet Partner, and you can use my referral links to try out Guild Wars 2 for yourself, if you're interested, while also supporting the channel.

The Jan 13 balance patch didn't hit everything that I hoped it would, but some of the nerfs to Engineer, Luminary, and Troubadour will at least give some groups the opportunity to try some different things out. It's better than things looked initially, during the preview. And the Conduit boons ended up being Stability/Resistance, so that's potentially an interesting support build in there.

I've gone ahead and de-listed the Everything You Need Holosmith guide, since it's now outdated with the trait changes, and will start work on remaking that, alongside some guide videos for Luminary, Ritualist, and Troubadour. As a reminder, all of the old balance patch videos that I make just get delisted, not deleted, so if you want to take a trip down memory lane pop into the Discord (link on my YouTube profile) and you can check out any of the older stuff.

In general, if it's a public video on my channel, I think it's an up-to-date build that's good enough to play in an organized group, even if it isn't necessarily top of the meta specifically.

Hey y'all. Hope your holiday break was nice. Balance patch preview video will be up tomorrow, but I wanted to ask a quick question about the channel overall. I'm thinking of branching out into a few other games, and I'm curious how damaging it'd be to the current subscriber base here. Content would be the same style, short and focused tutorial/guide videos, just for some other games in addition to World vs. World in GW2.

This would be in addition to Guild Wars 2 content, not a replacement for it -- I'm not planning on switching off of doing GW2 stuff, just exploring different topics. Let me know thoughts below.

Balance update notes for Jan 13 are out! There's some meat in this one, but I am super busy this week, so I'll try to get a balance patch preview out over the weekend. Link to the forum post with the notes below.

Balance patch today! Extremely minor WvW changes. A nerf to Engineer Flamethrower (finally) and a nerf to Druid Spirit of Nature (finally), but not so significant that you stop using either. Also, changes to the UI for selecting a team, which is good to see, because that was extremely confusing. Probably won't do a video on this one, but here's notes.

Hi everyone. Channel update time. Auto-dubbing is now turned off channel-wide, based on the poll that we ran last week.

44% of you were okay with the channel using it.
55% of you weren't okay with the channel using it.
And 61% of you wanted to watch a video about auto-dubbing.

So here's that video.

I recognize that the poll was pretty close! Honestly, for me, the biggest issue is the accuracy of the dubs, and the lack of transparency from Google about how the overall process works. But if you have ideas for how I can make the videos and information on the channel more accessible for people who aren't native English speakers, I am all ears. :)

Hey gamers. Today, YouTube has introduced auto-dubbing on my channel specifically. If you aren't aware or haven't seen it before, this is a feature that YouTube has that automatically dubs videos into different languages. There's some considerations to make from my perspective about the fair use of AI content, the impact that it has on the viewership and community of my videos, accessibility of informational World vs. World content, et cetera, but I also wanted to put it to a poll and see what you all think of the feature as well to inform my decision further.

Regardless of your feelings about it, let me know if it's also something that you'd want me to talk about in a video. It's been a long, long time since we last did a channel update, but I could ramble about this for a bit.

If you have specific questions, drop me a comment on this post, and we can chat about it.

World vs. World is going to be unavailable tomorrow, May 15, for about 30 minutes for "maintenance". That's unusual! I can't remember the last time that WvW had downtime. I don't have any specific information, but I'd guess it's one of two things, so let's speculate a bit.

(1.) Something in WvW is broken badly enough that it requires downtime to fix. Issues like disabling gliding, specific skills, the arrow cart bug, etc, all have not required explicit downtime, and have been addressed via "new build available". My guess would be some form of the "queue bug", either the one that puts you back in queue, or, the one that says a map has a queue even when the people on that map are outnumbered. But this would be a fix to a very core part of the gamemode if it means 30 minutes of turning off the servers.

(2.) Hardware upgrades to potentially address skill lag under the guise of "maintenance". Again, minor changes to the gamemode like lord HP, wall repair threshold, vp system update, etc, have all not required downtime. But I'd assume a hardware migration would.

I wouldn't expect anything to be communicated officially, but I'm curious to see if either of the above problems happen for reset this week.

Gamers -- a recorded script for the recent quality of life patch exists, but I'm rethinking the way that I talk about the victory point changes. They're more complex than I originally thought. I'm planning on getting something out tomorrow with a basic overview of the changes, but then doing something more complex for the VP tweaks in particular. Sorry for the delay!

Hey. July schedule is up (on Discord). June schedule was ambitious, so I'm cutting back on July. There's a bunch of real-life stuff going on. I'm getting married, I'm finishing up a dissertation, and there's a bit of travel thrown in there as well for good measure. The perils of being a part-time creator. As a result, I'm not going to have a poll this month, and we'll catch up on some of the runner-up options as we move into August.

Reminder that if you are a Twitch sub or a YouTube member, you may want to pause those payments for a month or two, if you feel like you aren't currently getting your money's worth. Production of content is going to be low for a bit, but once real life is sorted, we'll get back to it. :)
