Adventures with Adeel and Dolly

إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون

It is with a heart heavier than words can express that I share the passing of my beloved father, Tufail Akbar.

Losing a father is difficult to put into words, especially when that father has influenced so much of the person you have become.

My father lived a rich and meaningful life. He was well travelled, exceptionally well read, and possessed an incredible knowledge of history and geography and otger subjects. You could mention a place, an event, or a period in history, and chances were he would have something fascinating to tell you about it. People enjoyed sitting with him, listening to his stories, and learning from the knowledge and experiences he had accumulated throughout his life.

But to me, his greatest influence was much more personal.

He was the reason I started travelling at such a young age.

When I was still very young, he trusted me enough to allow me to travel solo. Looking back, I realize how extraordinary that trust was. He gave me the freedom to explore, experience the world for myself, make decisions, and find my own way.

That trust helped shape my confidence and independence, and it created in me a lifelong love of travel and adventure. The traveller I am today exists in large part because my father believed in me enough to let me go.

Every journey I have taken since then carries a little bit of what he gave me.

He was also an incredibly generous man. He was a philanthropist in the truest sense—not for recognition, but because helping people was simply part of who he was. Over the years, he helped countless people and supported many families financially, including families he helped month after month so they could build better lives.

Much of what he did for others was done quietly.

Within our own family, he held a very special place. He was deeply loved and respected, and whenever there was an important matter, a disagreement, or a difficult decision to make, people would come to him. His opinion mattered. His words carried weight. People trusted his wisdom and judgment because they knew they came from a lifetime of knowledge and experience.

Today, I find myself thinking not only about what I have lost, but also about how fortunate I was to have him as my father.

I will miss our conversations.
I will miss his stories.
I will miss his knowledge and guidance.
And I will miss simply knowing that Abbu was there.

There are some people whose presence becomes so deeply woven into your life that even after they leave, they never truly disappear.

My father will continue to live through the people he helped, the families he supported, the people he guided, the knowledge he shared, and the children and family he leaves behind.

And for me personally, he will live on through every journey I take.

Whenever I find myself on a distant road, standing somewhere new, looking at mountains, oceans, cities, or places I once only read about, I will remember the man who first gave me the freedom and courage to discover the world.

Thank you, Abbu Ji, for trusting me.
Thank you for believing in me.
Thank you for giving me the freedom to explore.
And thank you for helping make me the person I am today.

Many of my friends have lost a father with you gone, as they always looked at you as their own father.

Please remember my father, Tufail Akbar, in your thoughts and prayers.

Rest in peace, Abbu Ji. You may have left this world, but your wisdom, generosity, love, and the journeys you inspired will remain with us forever.
