🌿 Great and Holy Wednesday: A Tale of Two Choices 🌿
Today, as we journey deeper into Holy Week, the Orthodox Church focuses on a powerful and tragic contrast: a fallen woman who repents and a chosen apostle who falls away.
✨ Repentance vs. Betrayal
In today’s liturgical services, great emphasis is placed on comparing the sinful woman to Judas Iscariot. The woman poured out her wealth to anoint Christ, kissing His feet in deep repentance. In stark contrast, Judas—one of the Twelve—betrayed the Lord for money with a deceitful kiss.
💧 The Sacrament of Holy Unction
On Great Wednesday evening, it is a tradition for the faithful to gather for the Sacrament of Holy Unction. We are anointed with blessed oil for the healing of our souls and bodies, receiving this mystery in memory of the Lord's impending death.
🍞 Presanctified Liturgy
Today also marks the final day of the year that the solemn Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts is celebrated, bringing the first three days of Great Week to a close before we enter the darkest hours of Christ's Passion.
Let us reflect today: Are we offering our most precious gifts to Christ in tears of repentance, or are we trading Him away for the temporary things of this world? ☦️🙏
