Take that with a grain of salt when you learn anything online. Even from me.

If you don’t like the music I make, find someone else who you do enjoy. And do that with everyone.

Actually good mixing advice 👇

1: The mute button is the most powerful tool to find problems. Got too much mud? Start muting things until it goes away. You can find more by muting than by soloing.

2: Most things in mixing is just volume control. Fader? Volume. Panning? Volume between left and right speakers. EQ? Volume on specific frequencies. Compression? Automatic volume control that turns down the loud parts. (The first ever compressor was called the "Leveling Amplifier" AKA "LA-2A")
Volume is MOSTLY the job, so start there.

3: A "reference track" isn't for your music, it's to calibrate your ears to your room. If you're not listening to other people's music in your studio, you don't know what your studio (or headphones) sound like.

4: If a client doesn't know you're working on their music, it's like you're not working on it at all. If you made any progress, TELL THEM. This can get you hired again.

5: You don't need a vocal booth in a home studio. MANY home studio "vocal booths" sound worse than if they just tracked in the studio next to the laptop.
Set up some acoustic treatment in your room so your monitors sound good, and your vocals should be (mostly) fine after that.

Downloading stems recorded in a multimillion dollar studio, recorded though analog gear where mixing decisions were already made, then using these stems to learn how to mix your own music recorded on a focusrite is maybe not the best idea.
