Phantom Blade 0 Review (Platinum)

Yet another amazing game coming from east, limited by it’s budget of $50M to become an epic. I say that because even though game is great, I feel like it could be a lot better with more polishing and balancing.

I enjoyed it, and even though I played on easy, few late game bosses are very hard and can kill you in one hit. This game brings a refreshment after Souls games. It’s a mix of Sekiro and God of War.

Pros:
🟢Many Weapons and types of attacks
🟢Fluid and fun Combat
🟢Combat animations
🟢Level design
🟢Interesting Bosses
🟢Stamina depletes only when blocking and using heavy attacks
🟢Easy to de-upgrade weapons and get items back
🟢Difficulty selection
🟢You skip first boss phase If you die in second phase
🟢Few good side quests
🟢Lose nothing when you die
🟢Easy to platinum - you need to go for True Ending (all Purple Quests done)

Neutral
🟡Game feels stretched, I feel it shouldn’t be longer than 24h (like GOW)
🟡Many pointless areas and items, you collect enough resources to level up too many weapons, should focus on only few
🟡Story is hard to follow and not good
🟡Lack of challenge - after 1h, game becomes too easy due to stamina mechanics
🟡Artificially hard at moments, later bosses can kill you in one hit
🟡Pointlessly long dialogues, you collect a flower and get a 1-2 min of dialogue - you can collect up to 40 flowers per level
🟡Many weapons but only few are actually good
🟡Many missable quests and Items
🟡Many pointless side quests
🟡Basic Skill tree
🟡Enemies don’t respawn - It is good but I missed something to try different weapons on….
🟡Combat, while fluid and fun, can feel repetitive as you dont unlock new combos

I feel like most of this neutral points could be easily fixed with bigger budget and more balancing. I finished game with over than 3.5M in currency, after I fully upgraded 3 weapons, 3 phantom weapons and all skills unlocked. You need to use only 2, but you collect so much pointless items that you can upgrade atleast 10 weapons. Which is pointless when you can easily degrade your weapons and get everything back. Game is stretched out and I feel it could be a lot better if it was more balanced and polished like God of War.

My score 8/10

Amazing game, you need to play it, but It’s not perfect, balanced and rounded like some Sony AAA games. Story is as bad as in Sony’s recent games.

First impression of Phantom Blade Zero.
I played only 2 hours so far but I already like this game. It’s not a souls like, it’s more of a action oriented Sekiro with focus on attacking and parrying. Game is very accessible, you lose nothing when you die, enemies dont respawn, and there is a plenty of upgrade material.

Combat is the best part of this game, it’s fast and fluid with many types of attacks. Attacks dont drain your stamina, only blocks do, but when you swap your weapon your stamina replenishes. Parry window is quite big so you wont have a hard time parrying, but there is 2 different buttons for parrying two different attacks which makes it not too easy.

Game is quite linear so far with only few optional side ways to explore.
I play on easy and I didn’t have much problems with bosses so far. It’s refreshing to play this kind of game after dying countless times in Souls and Wu kong games.

I heard that game is quite big and long with story taking around 20-30h to finish and up to 40h to do everything there is.

If you want a fast paced and fluid combat game with bosses this is a game for you. If you’re looking for a challenge this is not a game for you. I think I will enjoy this game 💙
