💬 So what are your thoughts? I'm curious about both the autistic and non-autistic perspective. Let us know how you handle it in the comments 👇
To me, I loved birthday parties, but not 100%. There were various types of sensory overload, but despite that, the number-one awkward part was wondering what to do when everyone stares at you, singing the Happy Birthday song.
My books, "The Tireless Advocate," "Unstoppable," and "Juggling the Issues," can be ordered on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and elsewhere, including any library or bookstore.
Please consider following (or at least sharing) for Autism Awareness content. I also post frequently on YouTube, TikTok, X, and LinkedIn under my name, "Matthew Kenslow.”

I went from hearing "Go away!" and "You're NOT our friend!" to becoming a stronger individual who learned what true friendship is. I happen to be autistic, but I refused to surrender! Now, I'm an advocate, a VOLUNTEER speaker who spoke to 20,000+ lives in OC, and an author and social media influencer who encouraged millions worldwide.
Important: My story/success isn't exclusive to Autism. I acknowledge that not all autistics will relate. My hope and encouragement, however, is for everyone to find their passion(s), no matter how big or small. Sure, some of us may not get degrees. Some of us may not be able to speak. However, inside each of us is a purpose, and I will go to my grave believing that.
Please share this (or one of my reels) with someone who needs encouragement, motivation, education, or some extra hope. Life is hellish and will never be perfect. However, inside each of us is passion and purpose. If we adopt patience, come to terms with our limitations, and persevere in hardships, we shall succeed, no matter how big or small it appears.
At the least, I humbly request you to please consider sharing this and checking out Instagram and/or YouTube, where I frequently post encouragement and motivation (sometimes with a little humor, sleight-of-hand illusions, and juggling too). I'd appreciate it, as the algorithms are horrible, despite reaching one million lives so far. "Matthew Kenslow" on those platforms.
If you're a reader or know someone who is, my three books are on Amazon (link in my profile). That is, if you're interested in my firsthand experiences and encouragement.

Rest in Peace, Harold Greene, former ABC7 Los Angeles anchor. I'm sad to hear the news. In one of our old home videos, he appears alongside Laura Diaz reporting on Y2K as it happened, albeit very poor quality: https://youtu.be/GKSPFWNynqs?si=IPVDW...

On the morning of July 22, 2013, at 6:17am Pacific, I turned 18 years old, but I wasn't assuming that Autism Spectrum Disorder would ever go away. On the contrary, I was excited to spend the day at Catalina Island for the first time, a surprise from my pastor who took my family over there for my eighteenth birthday.
A life without Autism was the furthest from my mind, and I had already come to terms that it was going to remain with me for the rest of my life.
Autism is indeed lifelong! It is a NEUROTYPE, not a disease. Therefore, it's nothing to be "cured" of.

I recently posted my Autism Journey on a couple of platforms such as Instagram and LinkedIn, and I thought I'd spread encouragement and motivation here too. Don't allow any disability to stop you (physical or neurodevelopmental), but be practical at the same time. I credited part of my success to early intervention, but I still required patience, coming to terms with limitations, and learning in the process. I was still the last person to finish a test most of the time. I sometimes stayed up past midnight struggling to complete homework. I spent five years at a two-year college. I didn't know who exactly I wanted to be (a math teacher) until the middle of college. And that's okay!

5 years ago this week was my "miracle week," culminating with St. Andrew's Presbyterian's Fall Fest on October 29, 2021. I've been feeling useless and depressed all summer and early fall, but I was given three events to juggle at in one week. There's much more to the story, but I described it in this YouTube video that I filmed on 10/29/2021, as well as in two books 🙂
