My top 10 creepy wind sounds :)

I created a free post on my Patreon where I shared 10 of my wind recordings that sounded pretty eerie. Some of them might not even sound that scary, but rather their background story - when and where I recorded them... makes them so. There are very few places that mean as much to me as this one. A small farm, hidden deep in the woods. A tall wooden fence that blocks any view from the outside. Inside, there is a lake with fish, chickens, sheep, a small creek flowing down from the hills, and a few small wooden cabins for sleeping, equipped with wood stoves to keep warm. No signal, no internet. When you are here, time stops completely. You have everything you need to survive, everything you could possibly want. The nature all around you is incredibly alive and loud, different from what you are used to. While I was there, I recorded a few minutes on an audio cassette. The interior of the wooden cabin by the wood stove with a fire, and also what it sounds like outside :) I listen to it all the time when I want to go back there, even if just for a moment, and remind myself of that feeling of peace. That is why I prefer listening to it on tape

What’s inside my microphone rig?

A few people have asked what microphones I use and why. When I'm present during a recording, this is the setup I usually use:

It's called DMS, or Double Mid-Side. It uses two cardioid microphones facing opposite directions - Front and Rear...with a figure-8 microphone positioned between them, with the capsules aligned as closely as possible. The figure-8 captures sound from the sides.
So, one MKH 8040 as the front mic, an MKH 8030 as the side mic, and another MKH 8040 as the rear mic.

It's basically a regular Mid-Side setup, but in both directions, which allows me to capture the full 360° sound field around the rig.
This way I can capture sounds from every direction with great detail and localization while keeping good mono compatibility. I can also decode the recording into 4.0, 5.1, 7.1 surround, or 360°/VR audio depending on what I need.

You may have also noticed a fourth microphone in the rig. That's an MKH 8020 omni, which I use as a dedicated low-frequency/LFE layer when working in surround. The 8020 reaches down to around 10 Hz, while the other microphones in this setup are specified from around 30 Hz, so it gives me an extra layer of very deep low-frequency information that can be used for the subwoofer/LFE channel.

So even though the whole rig is pretty small, I can get anything from regular stereo to full surround or immersive 360° audio from it. (which I'll later use for my 360° videos)

You might be wondering why I record in surround if the final result is going on YouTube, which is stereo. The reason is that some places and thunderstorms I may only get the chance to record once in my life. So whenever I can, I want to capture them in a format that works with different systems and can be used not only for YouTube, but also for cinemas, VR, and other formats in the future. I archive everything I record, so I want to keep as many options open as possible.

When I use this rig for YouTube, I usually just use either the front or rear MS side, depending on where the sound is coming from, and then widen the stereo image a little in post.


For my drop rigs, where I leave microphones recording in nature for several days, I use omni microphones. Mainly Sennheiser MKH 8020s in a SASS (binaural) array, which I usually hide under a tree and cover with leaves, or under a small wooden shelter if there aren't any large leaves around.

Hi everyone

A lot of people have messaged me on Instagram and emailed me about this channel. Some of you were asking if it's my second channel or if it's someone stealing my videos.

So I thought I'd just answer here instead of replying to every message each time:


No, it's not my second channel, I have nothing to do with it, and it doesn't look like they're using my content either.

Since I started YouTube, I've seen a lot of channels copying the style of my videos (YouTube recommends them to me pretty much every day), especially the videos that get more views. After I started putting "NO AI" in my thumbnails and titles, my views went up, which automatically started a wave of new channels doing the same thing.

This channel is no exception. It also has a very similar name to mine, and some of the thumbnails are almost identical to mine. So I can understand why a lot of you automatically thought it might be connected to my channel.

But it looks like this creator actually goes out and records their own stuff, which I fully support. Field recording isn't a very popular thing, so whenever I see new creators going outside and recording nature to help people relax, I'm happy to see it.

during my vacation on the island of Krk in Croatia, I managed to record around three thunderstorms over the course of the week. Some of them lasted all night with intense lightning activity. Here's a short sample of a few nice thunders:

whenever I get a chance to record a place I probably won't be able to visit again, I record it on cassette. I always archive my best sound memories on something physical, so I can listen to them years later without even turning on a computer
