PsychologyPop is about life after a late autism diagnosis. It’s for autistic adults who found out later in life, and for anyone starting to recognize autism in themselves. If you’ve spent years masking, pushing through burnout, or wondering why life felt harder for you than for everyone else, you’re in the right place.
I’m Elana Dunn, a licensed professional counselor with almost 30 years of experience, and I’m autistic. My diagnosis came late too, after decades as a therapist. These videos bring both perspectives together to help you make sense of what comes after, from masking and grief to relationships, sensory needs, burnout, and feeling safe in your own life again.

Getting an autism diagnosis can bring relief.
But what happens when the relief settles and you realize you still don’t know what to do with everything you now understand about yourself?
That part of late diagnosis doesn’t get talked about enough.
You may start looking back at your childhood differently. Old memories can take on new meaning. Things you used to push through may suddenly feel harder. You may notice how much energy you’ve spent masking, coping, adjusting, or trying to meet expectations that never really fit you.
And sometimes the most confusing part is wondering:
Why do I feel more unsettled now that I finally have an answer?
In this video, I talk about what can happen after an autism diagnosis or self-recognition—the relief, the grief, the questions, the rethinking, and the slow process of figuring out what this new understanding actually means in your life.
