Finally got onstage at the Virgin open mic tonight! 🎸 Played “Nice” with my backing track, then got to play my original song “Breeze” with a live backing band. Really cool hearing it come together with other musicians. Thanks to the band and everyone who cheered me on! 🌊

Happy Labor Day! 💕
A little reminder that the 40-hour workweek, weekends, overtime pay, workplace protections, and so many of the things we take for granted today didn’t just happen. Working people organized, fought, went on strike, and demanded better.
So today, thank a union.
Happy Labor Day to everyone who works for a living and especially everyone who fought to make working for a living suck a little less.

I’m still so geeked from my trip to San Diego this week.
There are honestly so many things I want to say about it, but first, I’m just really grateful.
The trip started with getting to meet up and catch up with my friend Flynn. They took me to the cutest little deli, the food was bomb, and we got to sit there and talk and catch up. My only complaint is that I wish I would’ve gotten to see you more, Flynn. 💜
And then, almost immediately, the trip threw me a curveball.
When I was leaving the deli, I realized that the plastic splash guard underneath my car had come loose and was hanging down. I had apparently been driving like that for a while, and I had absolutely no idea how serious it was or what it was going to cost me.
And anybody who knows me knows exactly where my brain can go in a situation like that.
“This is going to cost hundreds of dollars. My trip is 🤬. How am I getting home?”
But this is actually one of the things I’m proudest of myself for.
I didn’t let it ruin the trip.
I found a repair shop near my hotel, called them immediately, explained what was going on and made arrangements to bring the car in first thing the next morning. There wasn’t anything else I could do about it that night, so I decided I was going to keep living my life.
And somehow, completely by accident, the open mic I had come to San Diego to play was literally A BLOCK from my hotel.
So I got dressed, grabbed my guitar and walked over.
And I’m not gonna lie—I so felt awkward at first. 😂
I didn’t know anybody. Everyone else seemed to know each other. I put my name on the list, got myself a Red Bull, sat at the bar and listened.
And the musicians were GOOD.
By the time Nielsen played right before me, I was sitting there thinking, “Oh great. I have to follow THIS guy?”
And then I got onstage.
And I fucking killed it.
Not because I played every note perfectly or suddenly became the greatest musician alive. I just felt completely present. I talked to the crowd. I joked around. I told them where I came from and why being there meant so much to me.
At one point I told them, “This is my dream.”
Everybody laughed, and I was like, “No, seriously. Maybe not specifically THIS open mic 😂—but being in San Diego, playing my music, doing this… this feels right. This feels like where I’m supposed to be.”
And something clicked.
Afterward, people started coming up to me and telling me how much they loved my set. People I had never met before were encouraging me, introducing themselves, telling me I needed to meet everybody and become part of the community.
So I did.
I started talking to everybody.
I met Kirra. I met Jax. I met David. I met Dale. I met all these musicians and people I would’ve never known if I hadn’t walked into that room by myself and put my name on that list.
We exchanged Instagrams. We talked about music and more.
And before the night was over, I talked to the person who runs the open mic, Jeremy, and was invited back to play a 30-minute featured set.
So yeah.
I went to San Diego hoping I might play an open mic.
I left San Diego with a gig.
And hopefully when I come back, some of the musicians I met that night are going to get onstage with me and we’ll actually make something together.
I went back to my hotel that night completely on cloud nine.
The next morning I dropped my car off at the shop and went down to La Jolla with my guitar. I couldn’t get enough service to livestream, so I just sat in front of the beach and recorded myself playing some songs.
No production. No perfect hair. No elaborate setup. Just me, my guitar and the ocean.
And then the repair shop called.
My car was fine.
The thing I had spent all that time worrying could ruin my trip turned out to basically be nothing.
And suddenly I had my car back, an entire day in San Diego ahead of me, and I felt like a new woman. 😂
I went to Pacific Beach and did an hour-long livestream from the beach. I explored after.
And eventually… I hit my wall.
I got a headache. I was tired. I hadn’t eaten enough. I went back to my hotel and realized I didn’t actually need to squeeze every possible experience out of this trip just because I was there.
I’d already done what I came to do.
I played music in San Diego.
I livestreamed from the beach.
I met people.
I made friends.
I got invited back.
So the next morning, I got up at 6 AM and drove home.
And that’s probably the biggest thing I’ve been thinking about since I got back:
I’m really proud of myself.
I drove to another state by myself. When something went wrong with my car, I didn’t panic and let it destroy everything. I handled it.
I walked alone into a room full of strangers with my guitar and introduced myself.
I got onstage after musicians who intimidated me, and I played anyway.
I talked to people instead of hiding in a corner.
I made connections.
And when my body and my brain told me I’d had enough, I didn’t force myself to stay another day just because that had been the original plan. I listened to myself, packed my shit and came home.
That might sound small to somebody else.
It doesn’t feel small to me.
Thank you, Flynn. Thank you to everybody I met at the open mic who made some random musician from Las Vegas feel like she belonged there.
And thank you, San Diego.
I’ll be back SOOOON 💜😁☺️☀️🥰😘
