Ever wondered how Kizomba actually started?
๐ค Back in the late 70s in Angola, music was changing fast! ๐ฆ๐ด Dancers and musicians started mixing traditional semba with the heavy beats of Haitian kompa and the smooth vibes of Caribbean zouk.
๐ถ The word "kizomba" literally means "party" in Kimbundu, and thatโs exactly what it wasโpure party music! ๐๐บ๐ฅ
The absolute legend Eduardo Paรญm was right at the center of this movement, experimenting with new electronic sounds.
๐น๐ง One day in 1981, during a live radio show in Luanda, the host kept calling his new style "modern semba."
๐ปโ Paรญm just couldn't take it anymore, grabbed the mic, and dropped the legendary line: "What we are playing is not semba, it's kizomba!"
๐๏ธ๐ฅBoom! Just like that, on live radio, a global dance phenomenon finally got its name! ๐
