There’s been a lot of discussion lately about how YouTubers handle “free” products and sponsored content, and I want to be transparent about how I approach working with companies here at Amateur Operator.
When I have a video idea, I first figure out whether I can make it happen on my own. If not, I’ll reach out to companies with a specific concept, explain how their product could be featured or evaluated or be of benefit to the idea, and ask if they’d be interested in participating with a specific product in mind. I try to establish a reasonable timeline, keep communication open, and if an issue comes up during testing, I always give the company an opportunity to address it privately before publishing.
A few things are important to me:
•I never accept payment in exchange for a review or a positive opinion and I never will. •Companies have no say over my conclusions or what I publish. •I never compare products I’ve purchased against products provided for review in the same video. •I do my best to be clear as to the relationship with the companies i work with on the channel. •On rare occasions, if I genuinely stand behind a product deeply, I may share a discount code or participate in a sponsorship, but only after hard vetting, testing, and evaluation, and when I can trust my name to be a reason a viewer has purchased or entertained a product or company fully.
I’m always open to working with companies, but never at the expense of my values and honesty. At the end of the day, this channel is built on the trust of the people watching, and that’s something I have no intention of compromising.
This all being said, I have a few videos coming soon which include products sent for the channel from various companies before the end of the year:
•*A pistol range bag review, evaluating several different bags against each other.*
•*A leather holster video, highlighting the ongoing importance of leather carry options in today’s society, especially in regard to higher fashion.*
•*A beretta 92x Performance Upgrades video, where I’m testing various different (at home) upgrades for the platform with competition in mind.*
Happy Veterans Day to all our Veterans out there! Nobody other than yourself knows what you’ve been through and where you’ve been or what you’ve done. So a big salute🫡 to your service from one to another! God Bless all.
