So if you’ve been meaning to look into an ADHD assessment, this could be a good place to start.

Shared care can make ongoing ADHD treatment feel a little less fragmented.
Instead of having your specialist and GP working separately, shared care allows them to work together around your treatment plan, monitoring and ongoing support.
For many people, that can make the next stage of ADHD care feel clearer and more manageable.
If you’re looking into what happens after diagnosis and treatment begins, shared care may be part of that journey.

There’s a particular kind of frustration that comes from hearing “just be more consistent” when consistency is exactly the thing you’re struggling with.
With ADHD, forgetting something doesn’t always mean it wasn’t important. Getting thrown off by one small change doesn’t mean you’re overreacting. And finding routines difficult doesn’t mean you’re not trying.
A lot of these struggles make more sense once you understand how ADHD can affect working memory, task initiation and switching between plans.
Sometimes support starts with replacing “why can’t you just…” with “what would make this easier?”

Mindfulness with ADHD doesn’t have to mean sitting perfectly still with a completely quiet mind.
Sometimes it’s just noticing that your thoughts have wandered and gently bringing yourself back.
To your breath. To a sound. To what’s right in front of you.
And if sitting still makes you more restless, that’s okay too. A walk, a stretch, pacing around the room or fidgeting can still help you feel more grounded.
The goal isn’t to empty your mind. It’s simply to keep coming back to the present, without giving yourself a hard time for drifting.

You can care about something and still struggle to start it.
You can be listening and still lose the thread halfway through.
You can know exactly what needs doing and still feel strangely stuck when there are too many steps involved.
That’s the frustrating part of ADHD sometimes. From the outside, it can look like someone isn’t trying. Meanwhile, they may be spending a lot of energy just trying to get their brain to cooperate.
ADHD Awareness Month is a good reminder to look a little deeper before assuming someone is lazy, distracted or avoiding things on purpose.

Sometimes when your brain feels loud, the answer isn’t to push harder.
It can be something much smaller.
Putting your phone down. Writing one thing down before you forget it. Moving your body for five minutes. Eating something. Sitting near someone while you get started.
These things can look simple from the outside, but when you’re overwhelmed, even simple can feel difficult.
So if today feels like too much, make it smaller. One thing. One step. One less thing for your brain to hold.
And if you’ve been wondering whether ADHD could be part of what you’re experiencing, October might be a good time to explore that further.

Social media can be really useful for giving people language for things they’ve experienced for years.
Sometimes you see a video and think, “Wait, other people do this too?”
That recognition can be helpful, but understanding your own experiences takes more than relating to content online.
If ADHD has been on your mind for a while, an assessment can help you explore it properly.
