‪@thisislorelei‬ Nate Amos, the singer, songwriter, producer and guitarist of This Is Lorelei, wants to eat his heart in the morning light. Or at least that’s what he sings in a low voice while plucking a bluegrass melody. It’s the opening sentiment to his new record, The Singer In My Band, and it’s the opening song that sets the stage of his intimate live-session.

‪@PeterBjornAndJohn‬ This performance is not the first time Peter Bjorn and John joined KCRW in-studio. They performed an acoustic version of “Young Folks” on Morning Becomes Eclectic back in 2009 and graced the School Night stage in their early days touring the US. But 20 years on from Writer’s Block, Peter Bjorn and John are now in their 50s. They bring a middle-aged sensibility and gravitas to the album that catapulted them to fame as young folks. Perhaps at 20 years old, Writer’s Block has become part of the “old style” the band sings about on “Young Folks,” but its youthful sincerity feels timeless.

Sébastien Tellier is a fixture of the French Touch movement that dominated the early aughts with artists like Daft Punk, Phoenix and Air. The last time we touched base with Sébastien was in 2009 when he performed on Morning Becomes Eclectic. Five albums, a few original motion picture soundtracks, countless remixes, and several collaborations later, Sébastien returns to KCRW for a career-spanning performance in his signature style, fusing electronic production with catchy pop hooks, groovy guitar riffs, seductive disco synths and funky bass lines.

Croz Boyce rolled into KCRW on the late summer breeze, offering a cool relief after a string of stuffy heatwaves. In May, the newly formed trio consisting of Brian Weitz (Geologist) and David Portner (Avey Tare) of Animal Collective, along with Adam McDaniel (frequent collaborator and audio engineer), released their self-titled LP full of ambient soundscapes and gentle folk expressions.
