The Present Past
Hi there. My name is Jochem. I make the show The Present Past, a show where I research how the present has been influenced by the past. History but connected to the present and fun!
Every episode I show how history has influenced and made a thing, an idea or event in our present time. Let me know if you have a topic you'd like to share!
Even though I actually have been educated as a historian and do my research, I can and will make mistakes. So don't take the word of a youtube historian as the absolute end-all truth. You probably shouldn't do that with any (internet) person.

I went to Bulgaria with my friend Andy couple of months back. Go check out his video on this Bulgarian Nightmare Resort. It's about greed, corruption and why we can't have nice things.

The Present Past
Hi friends, I've decided to update the channel branding. It's been four(!) years since I first launched a video here. Much has changed since then. As I develop the Present Past I keep looking for ways to give this channel its own voice.
I worked with the brilliant Zala Reberc to distill the essence of what I do. As a historian, I try to do my best to show history through legitimate sources. I spend hours reading through books, browsing archival materials, collecting images and watching grainy video. Now that AI is seeping into every crevice of our society, I want to show you this process and also the human hand that is behind it all.
So the old logo is gone, but the mission is the same. I still want to show you how the past has shaped the present using academic sources. A new video is coming very soon!

My friend @IMPERIALYT got his work stolen by AI, a horrible perspective of what might become very common, very soon.

The Present Past
Hey I made a video on Hitler's book and what it means for the present. It's performing horribly. I feel people are easy to point to the idea of shadowbanning when video's dont perform. I don't know if this is the case for this video. Regardless, I think it is an important video and you can help by sharing it. But I wonder, maybe you did get it recommended?
