Forecasting Economics

Welcome to Forecasting Economics!.

My name is Juan D'Amico and I hold a Masters in Economics, a Masters in Business Economics and a Bsc in Economics.

This channel is dedicated to teaching applied econometrics, time series analysis, and forecasting using a variety of software tools including R, Python, Stata, EViews, Matlab and LaTeX. By subscribing, you will gain access to practical tutorials covering models from simple regression to advanced techniques, including time series models such as ARIMA, VAR, and VECM as well as complex structural models such as DSGE models.

My goal is to help you develop the skills to estimate economic models, generate accurate forecasts, and present your research in a professional format that meets academic publication standards. In the description of each video, you will find links to download datasets, recommendations for relevant research papers, and additional resources to support your learning.

Forecasting Economics

Hello, people!

It's been a while since I submitted a tutorial!

Tomorrow, I am posting a new video. It's a tutorial on Stata about how to evaluate RBC-DSGE models. For those who bought the DSGE in Stata package, I will teach you how to get Table 3 from the paper.

To evaluate whether a model resembles the real economy, we compare different statistical moments. Basically, we check if the model's standard deviations match the standard deviations of real data.

Stay tuned!

NEW VIDEO!! WATCH NOW!!

Let's start working in R! But first, make sure to download and install it!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb3R4...

Many of you have asked me to start teaching time series analysis and forecasting in R, and I listened! Before we can dive into the content, you will need to install R on your computer. In this tutorial, I will show you how to install R in a few easy steps. In just 4 minutes, you'll have everything set up and ready to get started!

Besides time series analysis models, I will also teach you some data analysis basics, including how to select, filter, clean, summarize, merge, and more. These commands are essential for many jobs today, and many companies will expect you to know how to handle data analysis tasks. I'll provide examples of the main commands so you can add these skills to your resume.

Do you have any special topics you would like me to teach in R? Make sure to send me your recommendations at juandamico@jdeconomics.com I will be creating new content in the coming weeks.

Just submitted a video in my youtube channel for members only.

I show different scenario analysis in the NK DSGE Model in Matlab-Dynare.

I modify the parameter values and show you the implications in the model.

Hello, community!

I am excited to announce the launch of memberships on my YouTube channel. There are two categories:

1. **Simple:** This basic membership is just to support more content creation. It's a way to show your appreciation for the content I create and contribute to more free content creation.
2. **Premium:** This premium membership is more expensive and not only supports my channel but also gives you access to exclusive videos for members.

My goal is to create more tutorials tailored to what my members want to learn. I will be providing numerous examples on VAR models in Python, EViews, and some content on DSGE Models as well. Every month, new videos will be added to the premium content. I will also be creating videos answering commonly asked questions, with examples for each.

You can send me an email at juandamico@jdeconomics.com, and I will try to create videos based on your interests. I am also committed to answering the questions you pose in the videos. The first video in my premium content is on the calibration of the 3-equation NK DSGE Model in Matlab.

Upcoming videos will include:
- More examples of VAR Models
- Do all variables in a VAR model need to be stationary?
- VAR Models in Python
- Augmented Dickey-Fuller test in Python with a logical function to automatically indicate if the series is stationary
- How to shade the confidence band area in STATA forecasts
- And much more!

I will also start adding videos on economic theory, such as trade models and economic growth. It all takes time, but I am dedicated to allocating more time to my premium content.

Thank you for your support!

NOTE: You can cancel your monthly membership anytime you wish.

After many people asked me for the codes, I have put together the codes to calibrate, estimate, and perform scenario analysis using Matlab-Dynare. Now you can buy this package, which includes slides, Matlab-Dynare files to replicate the model, and the dataset.

NOTE: I have decided not to create a video tutorial for this package, as it is the same model as the one in Stata. The package includes complete, full codes for Matlab. Something innovative is the inclusion of the code for scenario analysis in the calibrated model. We modify the parameter values and see how this impacts the model.

JOIN MY NEXT WEBINAR: New Keynesian DSGE model in STATA

Keep advancing on Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium (DSGE) modeling with Stata in our hands-on webinar. Join us for an immersive exploration of estimating the three equations that constitute the core of the New Keynesian DSGE model, using real GDP growth, inflation, and the fed rate sourced from publicly available datasets in Stata.

LINK TO REGISTER: jdeconomicstore.com/b/nk-dsge-model

Why should you Join the Webinar? Why is this model important?

The New Keynesian DSGE model is underpinned by three fundamental equations, each crucial for understanding macroeconomic dynamics. Firstly, the Phillips curve embodies the trade-off between inflation and real economic activity, capturing how changes in economic output affect price levels. Secondly, the IS curve depicts the relationship between output and interest rates, reflecting the equilibrium in the goods market and the impact of monetary policy on economic activity. Lastly, the Taylor rule outlines the central bank's reaction function, dictating how it adjusts the nominal interest rate in response to deviations of inflation from its target and output from its potential. Mastery of these equations is paramount for grasping the intricate interplay between monetary policy, inflation dynamics, and output fluctuations, providing a solid foundation for analyzing economic phenomena and guiding policy prescriptions. Through our webinar, participants will gain comprehensive insights into these equations, learning not only how to estimate them in Stata but also how their variables and parameters influence one another, facilitating a deeper understanding of macroeconomic theory and practice.
