TECHNOPOLIS CHALLENGE

Here’s a video to inspire your jam this weekend. https://youtu.be/P_XC0ENHYJk?is=ff5kF...

There are two ways of doing this challenge. The simple way; make a techno jam. Make it dark and atmospheric, gradually evolving. Have fun!

The more intricate challenge: look at the video and it’s subtle details very carefully and turn it into music. Here are a few observations and ideas:

There are two gradual changes in the video. First, the video goes slowly from light to dark. Second, the trickle of rain makes the lens wet and the image blurrier. How can you make a jam that reflects this?

The overlaid images are moving in and out of phase. What musical element might reflect this? A phaser? Different elements not quite lining up?

The cycle of traffic lights takes about 120 seconds: 20 seconds of red, 1 second yellow, 56 seconds of green and 3 seconds of yellow. Can you make a musical cycle or structure that reflects this?

Towards the end of the video (about 4:16) the streetlights turn on. Can you jam have an outro with a brighter mood than the rest?

Feel free (but not obliged) to use the video in yours.

The challenge is open to jams made during this weekend, and keep it under 5 minutes. Any genre or setup is welcome, as long as there is some hardware and spme jamming involved. Post jams in the form below. We will have a streamthrough with all the jams on Monday evening and a playful vote until Thursday. The form will close automatically once the stream starts, so if you’re late, you’re out.

Hardware Jams

This week, we want you to do a recording and then Jam on top of that recording OR do a Jam, then record something on top. Sort of like a DEVON cream tea ;)

The recorded section could be natural sounds, your own voice, hitting in additional samples, anything! As long as it's not copyright material.

For those perplexed how to do this, Many ways to do this but here's an easy way:
Record the first bit, whichever way round you choose to do it, upload it to YT unlisted, feed your phone or your PC into your sound desk/aux in and then Record the second bit. Then upload the final product unlisted or public

Bonus Panda points if you can get it Creamy.

TLDR: Do Jam. Jam on top.
