I showered with General Rico.

Now I’ve been deployed to the DeepSpace Vanguard, where I shower bullets and grenades on the Arachnid horde.

My preferred game modes in Starship Troopers: Extermination, ranked from highest to lowest, are:

1. ARC Mode
2. AAS Mode
3. Horde Mode
4. Critical Strike
5. Hive Hunt Mode
6. OSS

Anything below rank 2 I rarely play unless I’m bored and want some variety.

Critical Strike has always felt pointless to me. Plus I've had some epic battles to get to the Red Circle but only to have the match end as other players couldn't.

Its like why? Why does this mode exist? You could speed stim the whole team run to the circle activate the giant refinery and do your little boss battle without doing any of the side objectives and the mode would be like, 'Yep that's cool with me Troopers mission complete!"

Pointless!

Horde Mode can be fun but is incredibly repetitive by design but after awhile its like hmm pretty sure I know how to shoot a bug by now.

Hive Hunt is decent if you want points, but I don’t, and it feels like a precursor to Critical Strike.

OSS is something I avoid entirely—some find it relaxing, but I prefer killing bugs over cleaning up.

AAS Mode is enjoyable because it mixes on-field action like ARC Mode with base defense at the end, plus varied sub-objectives like activating generators or mining ore. Unlike Critical Strike there's real reprecussions if you don't do the objectives and simply run to where you think the Command Center will spawn in.

All in all, they feel like warm-ups for ARC Mode, which is the beast mode—resource running, max threat levels, chaos, and craziness.

I wish in ARC modes that Tankers and Scorpions would spawn randomly in the field instead of only as boss events; it’d be awesome to encounter them far from base while resource running, especially if the base had its own tanker to deal with.

Also, I wonder where all the mission maps for the new Valaka area are? I’ve been choosing some normal Valaka mode matches just to escape the repetitive quick match loop on Planet X-11 so I can refresh my eyes with some variety.

When two immature legends come together and go hard on the battlefield.

Haven't come across Whisper on the bug battlefield in a while. I hope he's well. Or dead. No inbetween lol.

I get invites now and then to join a squad, but honestly, that sounds like a boring way to play. At least for me.

I way prefer playing with randoms because it’s a lot more chaotic.

Squads have their little chain of command, their comms, and they drill and drill until everyone works perfectly as a unit. And yeah, I get why people enjoy that.

But to me, it’s boring as fuck.

You become so efficient as a squad that everything starts running like clockwork. Everyone knows exactly where to go, what to do, and what everyone else is going to do.

Sounds great.

Also sounds boring.

And honestly, it feels like a waste of developing individual skill.

What happens when you’re not with your squad?

What happens when things don’t go according to plan and all those moving parts you normally rely on aren’t there?

What happens when you have to make something work with whoever happens to be standing next to you?

That’s where I think real skill gets developed.

Not from being told what to do, but from adapting.

There have been plenty of times during ARC missions where a Hive has popped up and I’ve deliberately chosen not to destroy it because the mission is more interesting with it there.

Maybe that extra horde pushes people outside their comfort zones.

Maybe someone has to multitask outside their usual role.

Maybe things are moving too slowly and you decide to go off on your own. You might die.

Or you might pull it off.

Maybe the base gets built like absolute shit by random players, but if we somehow defend it and win anyway, good shit.

And if we lose, at least I probably learned something along the way.

I remember early on, a lot of 'tips and tricks' YouTubers were saying the Guardian class was one of the worst classes because Ranger and Demo had all the explosives and Medic had its specialised support role.

But not knowing how to play a class doesn't make the class any less efficiant. I learnt the Guardian class can be used as a devastating battering ram but also have the quick mobility of a Ranger, as long as you keep thinking and keep moving ahead.

You sit still. You're dead.

I've played in a few squads with some great players. But this has always been my experience:

You arrive at a refinery, deploy shields, everyone immediately does their assigned job, the bugs get blown up by grenade launchers, lures, mines, grenades, perhaps a hand full of bullets, a teammate grabs the ore, you retract your shields, and you head back to base having barely fired your weapon.

Boring as shit. And don't get me started on the mil-sim players lol. Permission to shoot my gun sir?

For me, that level of Squad organisation starts feeling like a giant safety blanket.

Give me chaos any day.

A Starship Trooper: Extermination song I wrote a while ago might finally see the light of day. Stumbled across a few things that made the video easer to create. I do like this song very much lol
