Big shoutout to Matt for his amazing progress in the Follygon Atelier.
After stepping away from sculpting in 2020, he came back feeling almost completely fresh. But that didn't slow him down one bit.
One of the most rewarding parts of running the Follygon Atelier is watching artists push far beyond their limits.
Matt came into the apprenticeship after years away from sculpting. Like many artists, life pulled him in other directions. Over the past 8 weeks, he fought hard to rebuild that foundation.
Not only did he return to sculpting, he created work at a level far beyond where he started. Matt has an incredible drive and the mindset needed to keep growing. I’m genuinely excited to see where he goes from here.
This is exactly why the Follygon Atelier exists. Not just to help artists finish a character, but to help them build the confidence to continue long after the mentorship ends.

Hey all, it's time for another 2D to 3D video! This time, I am sculpting Blackbeard from One Piece. Check it out!
I loved this design from artist zhaoziyue so much that I knew I was going to make it the moment I saw it! This character was genuinely fun to work on and had so many interesting challenges. From the crooked teeth to the crazy, wild hair to the wiggly eyes, this guy was just insane in every way.
