The Art Chronicle – Laya Addakula | School of Athens
Meet Laya Addakula, an 8th-grade student from Oakridge International School who has been part of the School of Athens family for the past 1½ years.
Laya’s love for art began with drawing, colouring, and creating her own characters. Over time, she developed a deeper interest in understanding art and improving her drawing skills.
At School of Athens, she has explored hatching, shading, colour pencil work, watercolor, and graphite drawing, while developing her ability to observe and recreate objects with greater realism.

Meet Nainika B, a Grade 7 student from NPS ITPL who has been part of the School of Athens family for the past 8 months. 🎨
Nainika began her artistic journey with a love for drawing and a desire to understand the fundamentals of art more deeply. During her time at School of Athens, she has explored graphite and colour pencils while learning techniques such as picture transfer, accurate measurements, hatching, shading, depth, and detailing.
With every artwork, Nainika continues to develop her confidence, observation skills, and understanding of realistic art.
For her, art is a way to explore creativity, express ideas, and continuously learn. We look forward to seeing her experiment with new mediums and develop her own artistic style. 🖌️✨
The techniques of the Old Masters were developed to solve problems.
Their techniques weren't simply about creating beautiful paintings. They were responses to challenges artists faced — how to create believable space, capture natural light, represent anatomy accurately, create depth and make figures feel more lifelike.
So what problems were the Old Masters actually trying to solve? And how do these techniques still influence fine art today?
Every artistic journey begins with curiosity, and for Vedansha L, that journey started in kindergarten with a fascination for fox and dinosaur art.
Over the past one and a half years at School of Athens, Vedansha has transformed curiosity into confidence. What once felt intimidating gradually became a space for exploration, learning, and creative growth. Through consistent practice and mentorship, she explored techniques like hatching, shading, and blending with color pencils.
Today, she draws with greater accuracy, understands light and shadow, and approaches art with a stronger creative perspective. Her journey reflects how guidance, patience, and practice help young artists discover their own voice.
Meet Anagha Srivatsav, a young artist whose journey began with simple sketches during the Covid years and gradually evolved into a deep passion for art and creativity.
Over the past two years at School of Athens, Anagha has explored realistic drawing, watercolor painting, shading, light and shadow, and different artistic mediums through structured learning and mentorship.
Her story is a beautiful reminder that growth comes with patience, practice, and the courage to keep learning.
