It can take you three or four years to begin to operate in the anointing and demonstrate spiritual power. If you are fasting and praying consistently, most of you will experience power. I know what you do. I know how you cast out devils. I've heard all your testimonies and stories. But you see, that is not necessarily a sign that you are mature.

All of us can move in power. I know. I know you see visions. I don't doubt that. Those are some of the natural things that happen when you begin to explore the spirit realm. Visions will come. You can conduct deliverance. People can be healed when you minister. All of these things can happen.

But what truly shows that you are mature is the evidence of Christ in your character. We must see a life upon which Christ has so lavishly expanded His territory. Such a man becomes flawless in character.

For instance, this is an opportunity for him to commit immorality, but he will not exploit it. He doesn't want to gain anything from his interaction with his sister. The sister is vulnerable. She trusts him. She may even be deeply attracted to him, and he is aware of it. But he will not exploit her.

Why? Because the nature of Christ in him has grown to the point where he has become selfless. He is not a danger to anybody—whether a married woman, a widow, or a single lady. He is not a danger to them because the empire of Christ has grown in him to the point where his character has been transformed.

Today, we have boys with microphones—people who have not been weaned from milk, people who have not been tried or tested with money, people who can fall because of the sight of dollars. Yet they are already championing the microphone and trying to change Christianity into a doctrine of wanting faith.

We have not so learned Christ.

When you choose to worship God in your darkest night, you draw strength from heaven to rise above the valley of the shadow.

I remember when we were at the burial site for my wife’s funeral. I made sure I brought my guitar with me.

The people who stood with me that morning will never forget what happened. I wasn’t trying to put on a performance. I simply gathered everyone, picked up my guitar, and began to lead worship right there in the middle of my deepest sorrow.

I was praising God through tears. My voice was trembling, but something rose from deep within me:

“God, You are so good. You are so good to me.”

Then came the moment to say the final rites and lay her to rest. I carried that guitar with me, still singing through the pain:

“Hallelujah, that’s what my song will be.”

Did the situation look like God was good? To the natural mind, no. But I had to gather every ounce of faith within me because I knew I was standing at a critical spiritual junction. I was either going to sink under the weight of grief, or I was going to rise above it.

I had lost someone I loved deeply—someone I had journeyed with since our 200-level days at university, where we studied the same course. The pain was so overwhelming that even the normal words people use to comfort someone could not reach my heart.

Then I realized something: “If human advice cannot help me, I must run to God.”

So I ran to the place of worship.

In that season of deep pain, songs began to come out of my spirit—songs that were born in the middle of my sorrow:

“Jesus, Jesus, You are wonderful, Jesus…”

When you find yourself in a season where your circumstances seem to contradict your faith, remember this foundational truth:

Good does not qualify God. God defines what is good.

The meaning of my surname—let me give you a simple way of understanding it.

In ancient African society, the system was largely based on divination. When a mystery happened and people could not understand what was going on, they would go to a diviner. The most important person in that system was the shaman. He was the interface between the spirit realm and the natural realm.

So, divination would go to work. They would inquire from the spirits, and the spirits would tell them the reason behind what was happening.

Sometimes, the prescription given would require some young people to travel into dangerous spiritual territories to obtain certain items needed to resolve the problem.

Those young people would go into the wilderness, the evil forest, or the mountain of the dead to retrieve whatever divination had prescribed. The leader of those young people was the one who carried my surname.

I have done my history. I have researched it very well because I had to go into that history myself.

So, those people… my lineage produced the people who would lead those expeditions because my lineage was the senior lineage in our district. Therefore, they had to produce the individual who would lead that effort.

The individual who went and led the expedition carried that name.

And because he was considered very powerful, he was believed to understand and operate with the guidance of the forest spirits, which were referred to as dwarfs. Because of that, he was believed to understand the language of trees.

And that is why, till today, my family has not produced a medical doctor.

So, you go, get admission, start reading medicine—you wrong mind!

I wanted my last daughter to break that pattern. So, I am still trying to convince her.

It must be said: I went and did research on this matter. I am telling you what I discovered.

When I understood all of this, I began to see the connection.

Those demons that they had consulted were the same demons that a certain generation went to sacrifice to. And after those sacrifices, they began to live longer.

Then I understood the reason for the shortfall in life expectancy in my family.

My father's generation were the first Christians. They stopped those practices. In fact, my father was a pioneer.

So, the demons came to attack him.

If not for my father, I would not be here. He broke the chain and embraced the Lord, and he died with his faith in Jesus Christ.

His death was what provoked me to seek the Lord.

After the prayer that I prayed, things began to change. People started living longer in my family.

That prayer broke the jinx. The spirit has no power anymore.

I remember when I was ordained. It was 14 days after my wedding. We refused to eat until it was late. We prayed. Prayed. And prayed. And prayed.

So I went to the bathroom to take my bath, and my wife was on the bed.

I remembered something. When we went to pay the bride price, we had list. If they said, “Bring 60,” we brought 66. If they said, “Bring two gallons of oil,” we brought five. We gave more than what was required.

But I remember there was a part of the family that rejected their own consignment. Why? Because they felt, “That is a pastor. Their daughter cannot marry a pastor.”

But it was too late. We had already signed up.

So they refused to take their own portion of the entitlement.

You know how people respond to grief. You know how they transmit their grief.

When I went to take my bath on the 14th day after my wedding, they sent a coffin to pick my wife.

She was on the bed, and in her spirit, I can’t explain it, she rose up and was going in the direction of the coffin. Meanwhile, her physical body was still on the bed.

That was how they wanted to bury my wife my ordination day.

But when I came out of the bathroom, she went back into her body.

I said, “You don’t do that here. She was yours when she was in your house. Now, she functions under my authority.”

The coffin went back.

So that was the first victory I won on ordination day.

If you don’t have the audacity to step into the apostolic movement, there are things in the land. There are things there.

But today, you will be fortified.

No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper, in the name of Jesus Christ.

If you are not up to date with your prayer schedule, I want to tell you now: you are under manipulation.

Even when somebody makes you believe, “Oh, you can get by without praying. Worship is prayer.” No. The Bible was not short of vocabulary. It mentioned worship, and it also mentioned prayer.

Are you with me?

In the days of David, prayer was done in the morning, afternoon, and evening. That is the basic prayer intake: morning, afternoon, and evening.

You must have a moment when you open your spirit to God and receive grace to prosecute the affairs of the next 24 hours.

Are you there?

Somebody can tell you, “Worship is also prayer.” Worship is great, but worship will not take the place of prayer.

When you neglect prayer, you have made yourself infantile in the spirit and vulnerable to darkness.

Whenever you see a man who is indisciplined, it is a manifestation that he doesn't have God. I'm talking about practical discipline.

Because if you have God, if you are under the government of God, the evidence of His government over your life will be revealed in the fact that He will be able to constrain you.

So, if your life is a loose cannon, a rolling stone with nothing to constrain you, that is not the description of a man that has a God.

Brothers and sisters, I failed God many times. I disqualified myself. There was a time in my life when I told God, “Even if I were the one choosing who You would use, I would still choose me.” Because I knew how often I kept failing God.

I even told God, “Whenever I’m about to fall into sin, give me a headache so I will remember that I could have died.”

But while I was saying these things, I would come out of prayer one hour later and still fall into the same sin. Then I would ask myself, “How do I manage this thing?”

I was a young believer. Falling and rising was part of my experience. But God kept lifting me up. He kept teaching me and connecting me with people who helped me grow. God tolerated me and worked patiently with me for many years.

Even today, I still make mistakes. Sometimes I’m going out for a meeting and somebody provokes me. In anger, I may speak harshly or respond aggressively. My spirit becomes unsettled, and I begin to think, “I’ve already lost this meeting.”

But the moment I stand on that stage, God comes upon me.

I have come to understand that while God wants us to grow into perfection, He is not using us because we are already perfect. His love can still accommodate our weaknesses.

The reason many of us have not given up on God is because we know that God will never give up on us.

And the reason we know God will never give up on us is because of His love.

The Bible says in 1 John 4 that God is love. So, you must know God as love.

Many of us fail in destiny because we do not truly understand the love of God.

Do you know why?

Sometimes, what you are dealing with has a legal undertone.

You may need to approach the court of heaven like an attorney, presenting strong reasons why the position and grounds upon which Satan’s authority is based should be nullified.

Many times, when believers hear about spiritual contention, they simply respond with more aggressive prayers. And that may be exactly what you have been doing.

But if the situation has refused to shift, it may indicate that there is a legal ground behind it. That means your strategy and approach may need to change.

Because there are battles that are not settled merely by shouting louder or praying longer. They must be addressed from the place where the matter is being contested.

IF YOU FAIL, IT IS YOUR FAULT.

When I graduated from school, I decided to hold a Thanksgiving service in my father’s church. I danced, praised God, and expressed my gratitude for what He had done for me.

After the Thanksgiving, the prophet began to speak powerful prophecies over my life. He talked about the great things God had in store for my future.

My father, who was the General Overseer, didn’t even wait until we got home before speaking to me about it. He stood up in front of the whole congregation and said, “I am addressing you right now in front of everyone. Witches have heard, wizards have heard, and heaven has recorded this prophecy. It is now in your hands to wage war with what has been spoken over you. If you fail, it is your fault.”

That man raised me like a soldier.

Those words stayed with me. Even when I faced temptation, weakness, or moments when I wanted to give up, I could still hear that sentence in my spirit: If you fail, it is your fault.

So what did I do?

I went out and looked for friends who could pray.

I wasn’t looking for people who only wanted to talk about fashion, entertainment, or superficial things. I wanted people who could pray with me. I looked for prayer warriors.

We would book a room, lock ourselves in, and pray for eight straight hours. Sometimes, after five hours of intense prayer, it felt like we had only just started. I would even ask, “Can we pray some more?”

You need to find your spiritual tribe.

Let Elizabeth locate Mary.

Find friends who will sharpen you, just as iron sharpens iron. Find people who can call you in the middle of the night when you have fallen asleep and say, “Get up! Your destiny is too great for you to be sleeping right now.”

If you don’t build a serious prayer life now, life may eventually force you to pray.

Without the altar of prayer, you can easily become someone who only talks about God instead of someone who carries His power.

Take personal responsibility for the prophecies God has spoken over your life.

Be intentional about the people you surround yourself with. Disconnect from friendships that add nothing to your spiritual growth, and surround yourself with people who challenge you, sharpen you, and push you deeper into prayer.

Stop living carelessly.

Wage war with the prophecies over your life. Build your altar. Stay in prayer. And pursue the destiny God has placed before you.
