Why can needling a point far away from the area of pain create such powerful results?

In this episode, I’m breaking down the channel theory behind distal acupuncture points and sharing 9 of my go-to points for treating everything from pain and digestive issues to gynecology, anxiety, and headaches.

I’ll explain why I often start with distal points before moving to local points, and how you can use these versatile points more confidently in your clinical practice.

Here’s what you’ll learn:
• Why distal acupuncture points can influence the entire meridian and why Qi may be more accessible away from the problem area
• How to use ST36, LI4, SP6, and LU7 for digestion, immunity, pain, gynecology, mental health, and head and neck issues
• How BL40, BL60, PC6, and ST38 can be powerful tools for lower back pain, headaches, nausea, anxiety, and shoulder pain
• Why KI1 is one of my favourite grounding points, and my practical tips for combining distal and local points for better results

🎧 Whether you’re a student learning point functions or a practitioner looking to strengthen your point selection, this episode will help you understand why these 9 distal points are such powerful tools to have in your clinical toolkit.

Did you know that in Chinese medicine, your tea choice can actually be matched to your individual pattern? 🍵

In this episode, I’m exploring tea through a TCM lens, looking beyond general health claims to the nature, flavour, and function of each tea. From cooling green tea to warming black tea, damp-resolving Pu-erh, and calming chrysanthemum, I’ll break down how different teas may support or aggravate different patterns.

We’ll also explore the difference between true teas and herbal teas, caffeine levels, and some of the most common mistakes people make when choosing tea based on their constitution.

Here’s what you’ll learn:
• How to match green, black, white, oolong, Pu-erh, matcha, and genmaicha to different TCM patterns and needs
• Which teas can help clear Heat, move Qi, resolve Dampness, nourish Yin, or support the Spleen and Stomach
• How to use caffeine-free herbal teas like ginger, goji, mint, chrysanthemum, rooibos, licorice, dandelion, and chai blends
• Why choosing the wrong tea for your pattern can backfire, and how to make more personalized tea recommendations for yourself and your patients

🎧 Whether you’re a tea lover, a TCM student, or a practitioner looking to bring more food and beverage therapy into your practice, this episode will help you see your daily cup of tea through a whole new lens.

💧 Body Fluids Deficiency: Dryness & Yin Deficiency

When Body Fluids are deficient, the body loses its ability to adequately moisten and nourish tissues, which can show up in a variety of ways.

🔎 Signs & symptoms to look for:
• Thirst
• Sunken eyes
• Muscle spasms & twitching
• Leg cramps
• Emaciation or withered muscles
• Dry, withered skin
• Dry hair
• Dry stools
• Dry eyes
• Red tongue with little to no coating

💡 A clinical pearl:
Body Fluids need to be replenished through food and drinks.

Think about incorporating:
🥑 Lubricating foods that are rich in healthy fats
💧 Hydrating foods with high water content

So when you recognize a pattern of dryness, don't just focus on the symptom itself.
Consider the patient's diet and hydration as part of the bigger picture.
As TCM practitioners, our job is to connect the signs and symptoms and recognize the underlying pattern, not treat each symptom in isolation. 🌱

Seed cycling is a simple nutritional practice that rotates four seeds across the two main phases of the menstrual cycle.

During the follicular phase from the first day of menstruation until ovulation, many people use ground flaxseed and pumpkin seeds.
After ovulation, during the luteal phase, the rotation typically changes to ground sesame and sunflower seeds.

From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, seeds are considered nourishing foods that support the Kidney system. In TCM, the Kidneys are associated with Jing (Essence) and are traditionally linked with fertility, hormonal vitality and reproductive health.

From a nutrition perspective, these seeds provide fibre, healthy fats, minerals, lignans, vitamin E and antioxidants.

If you have a regular 28-day cycle, a common approach is days 1–14 for flax and pumpkin, then days 15–28 for sesame and sunflower. However, switching according to ovulation is more personalised, since ovulation does not always occur on day 14.

Seed cycling can be a nourishing food ritual, but it is not a proven treatment for hormonal imbalance, fertility concerns or menstrual symptoms.
