What you see, is what you get. I don't have time to worry about what others do or think, because I do what works for me here and that may not work for you there. I live a very basic lifestyle with no running water, no electric and no solar panels. I love to garden and observe nature and raise my own meat. I cook on top of the woodstove during the cold months and during the warmer months often cook on a rocket stove out in the yard. I shower outside from spring to fall using water from my simple rainwater system. I love to make compost and I think it's a horrible act to waste anything. I do a considerable amount of foraging. If you want a channel that shows all and tells all, well, this probably isn't the channel for you. If you chose to watch my videos, then thank you. If you like what you see please consider subscribing or give a thumbs up. I have no intention to monetize, but I do enjoy your comments, as long as they are appropriate.

Folks, if you've never visited Ernies channel, you should. He says A LOT without saying much at all. I love this man to bits. ❤️ https://youtu.be/WoE34D7lCgk?si=qApF5...

I just started my first fire in the stove this morning. It got down to 38°F and was a tad chilly outside. Feels wonderful inside the house now.

@darrylweidenhofer I found this garder snake that had been run over on the camp road here. The sun had gotten at it so as the snake broke down in the heat, and it turned this color. It was only about 2.5 feet long.

One more picking each of wild cherries and nannyberries, and I'll have what I need to make nannyberry butter and wild cherry syrup. This has been a great berry season this year.

I've gotten a lot of new subscribers so I want to post this again. This is what I get when I try to respond to comments under my videos. I try, and sometimes I can respond, but most of the time I am unable to.

SWEET POTATO GURU's: Not sure what vatiety these sweet potatoes are. I bought some at a roadside market, cooked one up and really enjoyed its flavor and texture so I put one aside and started slips. They could be a bush variety or they just dont like where they are planted, as the vines are shorter than i expected them to be. Im hoping they are a bush variety and that's why the short vines, but I just dont know because they took a while to vine out. Anyone I've asked, told me to let them do their thing and not try and force them with plastic (a green house type of structure). I keep a thermometer in the soil there and it's has been reading about 70° since first planted. It has gone as high as 80 and as low as 68° so a dependable soil temp. My question is this: is it recommended to feel around the root system to feel for tubers or as someone blatantly told me "Leave them alone. Sweet potatoes dont like to be fondled" lol. Ive only grown them a handful of times over the years and these dont act like others ive grown. I understand I may or may not have tubers under the plants. I also understand more energy will go the creating tubers if the vines remain short.

Today I'm moving around compost piles. This pile is one of a few that will be moved over to this area for next year's garden season. It's much cooler today.

My meal at work today: beets and beet greens, carrots, potato, onion, onion top, garlic scape, broccoli, and scrambled duck egg. I never get tired of hash, because I use whatever is in season, or what needs to be used up. It's never the same, except the base, which are my stand by root crops that store well (potato, carrot, beet, onion).

I FINALLY took 2 seconds at the end of the day to put a sitting bench by the bog. My 85 yr. old step mom walks a lot and she mentioned it would be nice to sit and rest on the hot days. My place is halfway in her trek. I reminded her I had a resting bench beside the driveway. After she rested, I made it a priority to move the bench down to the bog so she could rest and have a nice view. It's a pretty worn out slab of wood, but she's sturdy. (The bench, not my stepmother 😆). Hoping others will take the time to sit and relax as well. Years ago I had a bench there and folks enjoyed watching the wildlife...especially watching the otters play.
