Almost five weeks ago, I left Pennsylvania in a camper van I was still figuring out.
Thousands of miles later, Lexi the Golden and I have rhythms. Everything has a place. And this little van really does feel like our home on the road.
Funny enough, though, it's not the BIG things I've come to appreciate most. It's the little ones.
I shared 10 of my favorites in this week's video — including a couple I never would have thought of before I left.

Okay, road trippers. Important question. 😂
You're several hours into a driving day and need a break.
What's your first move?

This is one benefit of the camper van I didn't fully appreciate until I started Field Tripping.
I've been able to actually stay on some of the farms I'm filming.
That means being there early in the morning and late in the evening, wandering around with my camera when nobody needs anything from me, and seeing little moments I might otherwise miss.
It's become one of my favorite parts of this entire trip.

Sometimes the best thing I can do during a long driving day is simply stop.
Just pull over somewhere, stretch out for a few minutes, make something to drink, let Lexi have a break...and then keep going.
I'm getting much better at giving myself permission to do that.
Are you a “keep driving until we get there” person or a “stop when you need to” person?

I still love sleeping in my tent. But after spending a few rainy nights listening to the rain hit the roof of the van instead...
I have to admit there is something VERY satisfying about waking up and just enjoying the sound instead of worrrying!
That's one of the little things I shared in this week's video.
Tent campers — you know what I'm talking about, right?

One thing this trip keeps reminding me:
The best part of having a camper van isn't necessarily what's inside it.
Sometimes it's where you can wake up.
I've slept at campgrounds, RV parks, farms and some pretty beautiful places over the past few weeks.
Which would you choose: mountains, forest, farm or waterfront?

Lexi has now traveled tens of thousands of miles with me, but this is our first BIG trip in a camper van.
I spent a lot of time before we left figuring out how to make this tiny space work for both of us.
Her verdict?
I think the fact that she climbs into her spot and makes herself at home pretty much everywhere we go says it all. 😂

After almost 5 weeks in a camper van, I’ve discovered it’s the LITTLE things that make me happiest.
If you could add just ONE of these to your next road trip, which would you choose?

One of the reasons this road trip keeps taking me to places I might never have discovered on my own...
This week it was Berger Seed in Oregon.
Hazelnut trees, enormous stretches of farmland, and a family story I've been looking forward to learning more about.
I'm traveling all these miles because of Field Tripping—but I'm discovering that the roads, landscapes and people in between are becoming a pretty wonderful part of the story too.

Have you ever driven a favorite road in the opposite direction and been surprised by how different it looked?
That happened to me twice this week.
These were roads I'd traveled before and remembered as beautiful—but heading the other way changed the views completely. Different mountains in front of me, different overlooks catching my attention, different things I hadn't even noticed before.
Apparently sometimes you don't need a new road to see something new.
Have you ever experienced this?
