After all this time that has passed since the final, after thinking about it a lot, I want to let everyone know that I am retiring from the National Team...
It was a decision that hurt and still hurts deeply, but I understand that this is the right time. I swear that I always gave everything—not only in recent years when we won everything before, but always. I always fought and gave everything for this shirt, to bring joy and make Argentinians proud through football.
There isn’t much time left, and chapters are coming to an end. This is one that hurts me a lot. I love, loved, and will always love being part of the National Team. I emptied myself completely, and now there are younger, great players coming through who deserve to be there.
Thank you for all the love over these 20 years. I’m going to miss hearing you from the inside. Now I will be one more of you, supporting and cheering from the outside—in good times and bad, even more so. Thank you to my family for always being there and for accompanying me on this beautiful but difficult journey. Thank you to every coach, teammate, and staff member I had the chance to share this journey with. I take with me unforgettable memories and moments.
I leave with the peace and pride of having given you everything, together with my teammates—the moments we dreamed of. It was crazy to have lived it with you. I love you!
