Uzbekistan–China Medical Cooperation Enters a New Stage

Abdulla Azizov, Director of the Agency for the Development of Medical and Pharmaceutical Industry of Uzbekistan, held a meeting with representatives of Guangzhou Concord Cancer Center.

The meeting focused on further expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and China in healthcare, including the introduction of advanced medical technologies, exchange of expertise, and the development of joint projects.

The two sides also discussed opportunities to improve the quality of medical services, introduce modern diagnostic and treatment methods into clinical practice, and bring advanced technologies to Uzbekistan’s healthcare sector.

Following the meeting, both sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on mutual cooperation.

The MoU provides a strong foundation for building a long-term and practical partnership in healthcare, advancing joint initiatives, and developing new areas of cooperation between Uzbekistan and China.

This marks another step forward in strengthening healthcare collaboration between Uzbekistan and China.

1,000 Proton Therapy Patients — What Do the Numbers Tell Us?

Reaching 1,000 proton therapy patients is more than a milestone. It gives us an opportunity to look at the patients we have had the privilege to care for — and the types of cancers treated with proton therapy.

At Guangzhou Concord Cancer Center, our proton therapy patients have included a wide range of tumor types:

🔹 Head & Neck Cancers — 26.5%
🔹 Central Nervous System Tumors — 20.5%
🔹 Breast Cancer — 20.4%
🔹 Lung Cancer — 12.6%
🔹 Gastrointestinal Tumors — 9.6%
🔹 Urogenital Tumors — 6.3%
🔹 Other Cancers — 3.3%
🔹 Eye Cancer — 0.8%

Pediatric cancer patients accounted for approximately 12% of our proton therapy patients.

For us, proton therapy is not simply about advanced technology. It is about **precision — precise treatment planning, meticulous execution, and compassionate care.**

Our approach combines advanced proton therapy technology with IMPT optimization and image-guided verification, with the goal of delivering highly precise radiation while protecting surrounding healthy tissues whenever clinically appropriate.

Every patient is different. The decision to use proton therapy should always be based on an individualized assessment of the tumor, anatomy, treatment goals, and available alternatives.

**1,000 patients. One commitment: precision in every treatment.**

Clinical Outcomes that Inspire Confidence
Clinical performance remains a central focus of the program.
Among patients who have completed evaluation:
• 97.9% Disease Control Rate (DCR)
• 77.7% Objective Response Rate (ORR)
• 97.7% Treatment Completion Rate
• Only 0.58% Treatment Non-completion Rate — Among the Lowest Reported in the Industry
Early clinical observations also indicate favorable treatment tolerance, with many patients experiencing fewer acute side effects than those typically associated with conventional radiotherapy while maintaining their quality of life throughout treatment.
The exceptionally low treatment non-completion rate reflects strong patient adherence and the comprehensive clinical support provided throughout the treatment journey.

Guangzhou Concord Cancer Center has reached an important milestone in its proton therapy program, having treated more than 1,000 patients within just 19 months since the clinical launch of its ProBeam® Proton Therapy System.

Today, more than 100 patients receive proton therapy at the center every day, reflecting the growing demand for precision radiation therapy among both domestic and international patients seeking advanced cancer treatment in China.

Reaching the 1,000-patient milestone within 19 months demonstrates the rapid development of the hospital's proton therapy program. Compared with several internationally recognized proton therapy centers, Guangzhou Concord Cancer Center achieved this milestone within a remarkably short period.

The following table summarizes the time required by major international proton therapy centers to reach their first 1,000 patients. Guangzhou Concord Cancer Center's 19-month timeline reflects one of the fastest growth trajectories in modern proton therapy.

🌍 Research from Guangzhou Concord Cancer Center Presented at AAPM 2026
Our Medical Physics team recently attended the 2026 AAPM Annual Meeting in Vancouver, Canada, where we presented three research studies on proton therapy and precision radiation treatment.
Our research focused on improving dose calculation, predicting radiation-induced skin reactions, and advancing treatment planning technology—all with the goal of making cancer treatment safer and more precise.
During the meeting, Professor Yuanshui Zheng, Director of Medical Physics, also participated in the AAPM Particle Therapy Subcommittee (PTSC), joining experts from leading proton therapy centers to discuss the future of particle therapy.
We're grateful for the opportunity to share our research, exchange ideas with colleagues from around the world, and continue advancing precision cancer care through international collaboration.

🔬 Is Every Tumor Cancer?
Let's break the myth.

🔬 The word "tumor" can sound frightening.
Many people immediately think,
"Tumor means cancer."

❌ Not every tumor is cancer.

✅ A tumor simply means an abnormal growth of cells. Some tumors are benign (non-cancerous), while others are malignant (cancerous).

🩺 That's why doctors often recommend further tests before making a diagnosis.

💙 Understanding the difference can help replace fear with facts.

💬 Did you know that not every tumor is cancer?
