Thousands of Americans and other foreigners come to the Dominican Republic as tourists and some end up staying for months—or even years—without obtaining residency. Many believe that as long as they pay the overstay fee when leaving the country, they're perfectly legal.

But is that actually how Dominican immigration law works?

In this video, we break down the difference between entering the DR legally and having legal immigration status, how the overstay fee really works, what happens when a tourist stays beyond their authorized period, and the surprising fact that Americans have actually been deported from the Dominican Republic for irregular migratory status.

ICE deportations in the United States 🇺🇸 and mass deportations of undocumented migrants in the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 are happening at the same time — but are we applying a double standard when it comes to immigration enforcement?

In this video, I compare ICE immigration enforcement and deportations in the U.S. with the Dominican Republic’s intensified immigration operations and the deportation/repatriation of undocumented migrants, particularly across the border with Haiti.

As a certified migration consultant, I strongly believe in legal immigration — but I also believe every sovereign country has the right to enforce its immigration laws and control its borders.

So why do ICE raids and deportations generate so much controversy in the United States while many Dominicans strongly support immigration enforcement in the Dominican Republic?

We look at:

🇺🇸 ICE raids, arrests and deportations in the United States
🇩🇴 Dominican Republic immigration enforcement and DGM operations
🇭🇹 Haitian migration and the crisis in Haiti
📊 Recent deportation and repatriation numbers in both countries
⚖️ Legal immigration vs. illegal/irregular immigration
🛂 Border security and the right of countries to enforce immigration laws
👥 Due process, racial profiling and treatment of undocumented migrants
🌎 The important differences between the U.S. and Dominican immigration situations
❓ And the big question: If the Dominican Republic can deport undocumented immigrants, should the United States be able to do the same?

The situations in the United States and Dominican Republic are NOT identical, and this video explains those important differences. But the comparison raises a difficult question about immigration, sovereignty, border enforcement and whether we apply the same principles depending on which country is doing the deporting.
