The first time I ran a webinar on my own, only my family stayed till the end.
⠀
Everyone else left.
⠀
It was a few months after I had left EY.
⠀
People joined. I started speaking. Everything felt fine.
⠀
Then I announced a short break.
⠀
When I came back... the screen was almost empty.
⠀
Only my family was still on the call... to keep me motivated.
⠀
I finished what I had to say and closed the webinar.
⠀
It felt crushing.
⠀
I could have taken it as a sign to stop.
⠀
Instead, I looked honestly at two things. What I was teaching. And how I was inviting people.
⠀
I rebuilt both from scratch.
⠀
Years later, I ran a masterclass with over 500 people.
⠀
And as part of the core team of an established coach, I helped run webinars for audiences of 10,000+.
⠀
I share this because most CAs and CPAs I speak with aren't really afraid of posting.
⠀
They're afraid of the empty room.
⠀
The post with 3 likes. The colleague who sees it and says nothing. The client who never mentions it.
⠀
But an empty room isn't a verdict on your expertise.
⠀
It's feedback on your first draft.
⠀
Every visible expert you respect today once spoke to an empty room.
⠀
The difference is... they came back after the break.
⠀
What's one insight you've been holding back from sharing?
⠀

In 2015, I turned down a bank's offer that paid 3x more.
On paper, it made no sense.
Instead, I joined a specialised indirect tax firm in Mumbai at 1/3 of that package.
Because I wanted to go deep in one area and that was service tax at that time.
So I spent that year living and breathing indirect tax for big clients.
A year later, I walked into EY.
The same Big 4 that had rejected me twice. Once during my articleship. Once again at campus placements.
What changed in that one year?
Not my rank. Not my English. (Coming from a Hindi-medium school, that was still a work in progress.)
I had simply become the person who knew one thing deeply.
That experience shaped a belief most CAs and CPAs will disagree with:
Every firm needs a super-specialist voice. Even a multi-partner firm that offers ten services.
I'm not asking you to shut down your other services. Keep them.
But the market doesn't remember menus. It remembers names attached to problems.
"Who do we call for a stuck GST refund?"
"Who really understands sales tax for e-commerce brands?"
"Who can structure our cross-border payments properly?"
If your answer to every question is "we do that too," you'll get shortlisted... and then compared on price.
When one partner becomes the voice on one topic: Better referrals come.
Fee conversations start from respect, not a quote comparison
The firm's other services follow that trust in through the same door
The fear I hear most often is: "What if we lose the other work?"
In my experience, it rarely works that way. The specialist opens the door. The firm walks in behind.
So here's a question to ask your partners this week...
If a client could remember only ONE thing about each of you, what would you want it to be?
If nobody has a clear answer, you don't have a pricing problem.
You have a 'positioning' problem.
Agree or disagree? And if you agree, what's the one topic you'd want to own?

While many are on vacation, I am using this time to work on myself so I can step into 2026 as a better version of who I am.
Yes, I have slowed down work for a few days. But that pause is intentional. It is so I can move forward with greater clarity, energy, and pace.
Over the coming days and weeks, I will be doing a set of personal practices and rituals to set the right rhythm for the year ahead.
👉 Here is why I am sharing this with you.
Some of these practices I do alone. Some I do with my clients. And I realised that there may be others who want to work on themselves too, but do not want to do it in isolation.
So I thought, why not do this TOGETHER.
From 31st December onwards, I will be doing these practices live. I am opening this up so we can do them together on Zoom.
👉 When we practise together, the collective energy helps us stay more present, consistent, and aligned.
If you cannot join every session, that is completely okay. There is no pressure or obligation.
The intention is simple = To grow together.
If you feel called to commit to becoming a better human, a better professional, and a better business owner in 2026, you are welcome to join.
👉 Please comment below “2026” so I know you are in.
Keep thriving,
Shubham Mittal
PS: This is complimentary. The only investment required is your time and your commitment for 30 minutes whenever you join.
