Hey Youtube, it's been a good long while. Posting today to update you on what's been going on these past couple of years. Hopefully as a way to explain the long absence.

Its been a bit crazy if I'm honest. In 2024, I lost my Mum to sepsis, triggered by a cancer that was otherwise generally treatable. I don't know how she managed it, but with multi-organ failure she clung onto life for 4 agonizing days. The definition of stubborn. The nurses had no idea how she was doing it, but she was doing it. It was enough time for us to get her home so she could die surrounded by the things and people she loved and it gave us a chance to say goodbye. She left us 2 days before Christmas.

4 months after this (and only 2 months after the worst funeral a person can attend in their lifetime), I became a dad. Those first 6-12 months, knowing my little girl would never know her Nana, that my mum would never see me become a parent myself, were extremely hard. You can imagine how simple joy inverted to anguish whilst unwrapping the various baby presents my Mum had stashed away for the little girl she was so looking forward to meeting. The first step, the first tooth, the first weird vegetable baby paste, all with an underlying current of loss.

After this, around August last year, just as I started getting into the swing of fatherhood, my Dad was diagnosed with lymphoma. The not so friendly kind. His own struggles more difficult now that he has lost his life partner of 40 years, needing far more support from me and my siblings to simply keep him positive and fighting.

So yeah, a bit crazy. Add in the difficulty every new parent has in figuring out how to keep a human alive, a full 40 hour job, a partner struggling through post-natal depression, a video series that covers death and the afterlife and you can probably see why I've taken a step back.

I've not forgotten this channel or its followers or those who offer support in comments and even criticisms of the content on a daily basis. I see you. Soon I'll be in a state well enough to return and get back to business.

Happy new year folks! Quick update on projects.

Dante 14 is fully scripted and voice-over is in progress. It's Virgil's last ever episode so feels like the end of an era (like 6 years of scripting this guy). All being well this should be going out end of Jan/ Start of Feb.

After Purgatorio 14, expect the first of a 2-parter for ancient Egyptian History/ Mythology covering The Book of the Dead. Been working on the script for this one for a very very long time.

After that one it's time for Purgatorio 15 (which is in research/ script outline stage atm). Episode 15 will be the final episode of Purgatorio.

Finally, with Purgatorio finished, there'll be a gap where we are re-recording/ re-editing Purgatorio to release the whole thing as a single 4-5 hour movie.

Well then. That time of the year is upon us again. Extra Life. November 4th 2023. 24 hours of charity gaming. Details below.

We're gearing up for another annual session of fundraising. For the 5th year running AspectHistory will be raising money for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals in order to help our sick and injured children in the US. Over the past 4 years we've raised a total sum of $2500 towards this goal. AspectHistory is a member of the official Team Imgur, and last year our small Youtube community contributed to the team's combined total of over $33,000.

So what's happening on Saturday? Starting at 2pm GMT (7am PDT, 10am EDT, 1am AEDT), we'll be kicking off a stream both here on Youtube and over on Twitch. We'll be gaming for 24 hours straight, playing the following videogames:
- Age of Empires 2
- Shadow of Rome
- Cult of the Lamb
- Dagon
- The Witcher 3
- Pharoah
- The House of Da Vinci
- We Who Are About to Die
- Dark Souls

Just visited Dante's house in Florence. There will be a video coming of that soon. For some quick history, there is a nearby church to his house owned by his wife's family (Donati). Dante likely first met Beatrice at this church and it was here that Beatrice was married. There's a painting inside depicting Beatrice's wedding with Dante turning away from it.
