We’re in the awkward transitional period between summer and fall. The days are still hot enough to sit by the pool, but everyone is drinking PSL in the cool mornings. So what wines do you reach for with this odd weather?

As a certified sommelier, I love pulling out medium
bodied wines that have great acidity. These wines are all excellent to pair with cooler evenings and dishes that are starting to have heavier ingredients (soups, stews, creamy sauces, etc). Many of these are also a bit oily and aromatic, giving them more body in the glass (think the opposite of a light, crisp, and acidic Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc). As the weather cools off even more, I’ll be reaching for bolder, heavier wines…but these are great “in between seasons” options! Which one have you tried? 🍷🍇🍷

I just shared my favorite tip/mistake when it comes to food and wine pairing over on my shorts! Leaving it here also as it’s such a game changer 🤯

📍 When pairing food and wine, don’t stress about the protein…the sauce and spices of the dish are much more important!

The age old rule of “white wine with fish” and “red wine with beef” is outdated and inaccurate. If I’m serving a piece of barbecue salmon, I love pairing it with Pinot noir or Grenache🍷. And I’ve been known to make creamy beef tip pasta and serve it with champagne or Chardonnay🥂! So look for flavors that will complement the sauces, spices, cooking style of the dish more than the protein and you will be on your way to chef’s kiss in no time 😉
