The Heart of a Hero (1916) — Restored Version
After months of frame-by-frame work, we are soon sharing our restoration of the 1916 silent historical drama The Heart of a Hero, the story of patriot Nathan Hale, starring Robert Warwick and Gail Kane.
During the project we found scenes that were missing from every source print we had. Those scenes have been restored and added back. The result is a more complete version than the other uploads currently available online.
This was a labor of love. We want to be honest: it is not a perfect conclusion to the work. Some faces and scenes look unusual — clay-like, slightly off, or out of sorts. That is because those shots were rebuilt from heavily damaged frames. We used AI and merged frames to repair the picture so the scene could remain in the film.
We know this is not the last word. When we have better equipment and the technology improves, we intend to revisit and redo this restoration.
Thank you for watching. If you care about silent film and early American cinema, we hope this version gives Nathan Hale’s story a little more of what it originally had.
