YoDub — Biography

YoDub is a Chilean musician, writer, and tattoo artist based in Toronto, Canada. His artistic journey has developed through Ska, Punk Rock, Reggae, Dub, Rap, percussion, and poetry, taking part in various musical projects in both Chile and Toronto.

Alongside music, YoDub has more than 18 years of experience as a tattoo artist, developing a parallel artistic career connected to drawing, design, and creative expression.

• Music from an Early Age

YoDub's relationship with music began long before he formed his first band.

In 1980, when he was very young, he gained access to a radio-cassette recorder. With it, he began inventing songs, singing, and making his own recordings. Some of those childhood recordings still exist today, preserving a glimpse of his earliest musical experiments.

From that point on, music was always present in his life. For years, he constantly listened to different styles of music and developed a passion for recording mixes on cassette tapes, selecting songs and creating his own compilations.

That passion for mixing and sharing music would return many years later. In 2013, he began creating mixes again and sharing them on YouTube.

Over time, this activity grew into YoDubMixes Prod., a channel that today has approximately 28,000 loyal followers who continue to support his mixes and creative work.

• His Beginnings as a Singer

His first steps in a band took place in Valparaiso, Chile, where, in the late 1990s, he became the vocalist of Moretón, a Ska/Punk band.

In 2000, he moved to Toronto, Canada, where he would continue developing his life and artistic journey.

It was also in Toronto where an important chapter began with his friend Pancho, also known as "AntiTop."

When they were beginning to sing and experiment with music together, they were constantly listening to old Jamaican Dub and Reggae. It was Pancho who helped choose the stage name "YoDub," inspired by the strong musical influence they shared at the time.

The name would eventually become the identity that followed him throughout his solo career.

• Antidoto Reverde

In 2009, Antidoto Reverde was formed, a Reggae and Rap project created together with his friends Pancho and Lepo.

On February 4, 2011, Pancho passed away. From that point on, YoDub and LepoRah continued the project as a way of honoring and keeping alive the memory of Pancho / AntiTop. From time to time, they would also invite friends to contribute vocals or instruments.

Although the project's activity became more occasional over the years, the friendship and musical connection between YoDub and Lepo continue to this day. Every so often, they still get together to record new ideas and songs.

In 2016, Antidoto Reverde took part in a Latin American tribute to Todos Tus Muertos and also contributed to the soundtrack of the YouTube series "La Abuela Rosa."

• Music with RomanRey

Music also became a family experience for YoDub.

He developed music together with his son RomanRey, exploring Reggae and other shared musical influences.

During a trip to Chile in 2016, YoDub, along with Roman and Lepo, was invited to several radio programs to talk about the music he was creating with RomanRey and about his different musical projects.

• T.Dot Batu

In Toronto, YoDub became a co-founder of T.Dot Batu, a Brazilian percussion group formed alongside Pato & Billy.

Within the band, he played the Caixa, a fundamental instrument in Brazilian percussion. His contribution also extended beyond performing: he designed the band's first logo, edited videos, and dedicated his time to helping develop the project.

He remained actively involved until approximately 2016, performing at various stages and events throughout Toronto and the GTA.

T.Dot Batu remains active to this day.

• T.Dot Sound Crew

In 2015, together with some members of T.Dot Batu, T.Dot Sound Crew was formed.

In this new project, YoDub once again took on the role of vocalist. Through T.Dot Batu and T.Dot Sound Crew, he had the opportunity to perform at numerous venues, bars, events, and well-known stages throughout Toronto and the GTA.

• Suburbia King

Between 2015 and 2017, YoDub also became part of Suburbia King, a Punk Rock project where he once again shared music with his cousin Lucho.

As the band's vocalist, he performed at different bars and venues throughout Toronto, reconnecting with one of his strongest musical roots: Punk Rock.

• Tattooing and Art

Alongside his musical career, YoDub has built a career of more than 18 years as a tattoo artist.

Tattooing represents another dimension of his artistic expression, combining drawing, design, and composition.

Music, writing, drawing, and tattooing are all part of the same creative universe.

• The YoDub Project

The YoDub project officially began in 2006, but over the years it developed an increasingly personal identity.

His solo project existed alongside his involvement in Ska/Punk, Reggae, Rap, percussion, and Punk Rock projects, allowing him to explore different musical environments while continuing to develop his own artistic voice.

By late 2017, YoDub decided to step away from his collective musical projects in order to focus on his work as a tattoo artist, his health, his personal life, and the development of his solo project.

• Music as Therapy

Over time, YoDub became much more than a musical project: it became a form of personal therapy.

His songs are born from poems, writings, experiences, thoughts, memories, and reflections.

First come the words. Then comes the music.

That is why his music can move freely between Punk, Ska, Reggae, Dub, Rock, Rap, and other sounds without needing to fit into a single formula.

Music is an extension of his writing and a way of transforming life experiences into art.

• YoDub Today

Today, YoDub continues developing his solo project, his mixes through YoDubMixes Prod., and his work as a tattoo artist.

From those first songs recorded on a radio-cassette recorder in 1980, through cassette mixes, bands, Toronto stages, and projects with friends and family, to his current productions and songs based on his own writings, music has been present throughout his entire life.

His journey connects Chile and Toronto, but it also connects different generations, styles, cultures, and ways of creating.

YoDub is music, writing, tattooing, and memory.

A project born from a life surrounded by music and built through experiences, friendships, loss, stages, and creativity.

Today, his work remains non-profit, driven primarily by the need to create, share, and turn his words into music.

From a radio-cassette recorder in 1980 to the present day, music has never stopped being part of his life.

At this point, I can only thank all the people who believed in me and continue to believe in me, and everyone with whom I have shared a part of my time and my life—whether through music, art, a project, a stage, or simply by sharing a real moment together.

Today, August 20, 2026, is going to be a great day. We’re finally going to see Sublime with Jakob, something I’ve imagined and looked forward to for many years, ever since I first saw a video of him when he was very young, playing acoustic guitar at his father’s grave.

In that video, we saw a much shyer version of him—so different from the artist we see today: confident, powerful, and completely in command of his voice, able to reach and capture many of the tones and nuances that made his father so unique.

The transition took time, but here we are. After all these years of waiting, we finally get to experience this moment as a family.

For this and so much more, today is going to be a great day.
