📜 2 Kasım 1922 – The Road to the Lausanne Conference
A significant moment in the history of modern Türkiye!
On 2 November 1922, during a closed session, the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) decided that the government would determine the delegation to represent Türkiye at the forthcoming Lausanne Peace Conference.
This decision came just one day after the abolition of the Ottoman Sultanate on 1 November 1922.
The Lausanne Conference would begin on 20 November 1922, with İsmet İnönü leading the Turkish delegation.
The negotiations ultimately resulted in the Treaty of Lausanne, signed on 24 July 1923, which internationally recognised the sovereignty and independence of the new Turkish state.
