Most vocal guidance stops at the voice. Some give performance tips. This channel goes further.
Whether you don't know where to start, or you've built the career and still feel stuck - the breakthrough is always an inside job.
I work with professional and aspiring professional singers to develop stronger, more reliable voices — and to uncover what’s getting in the way when more technique and exercises aren’t solving the problem.
From vocal technique and stylistic development to safe vocal distortion, performance, and career guidance — and the deeper issues that can keep even the most experienced singers stuck.

So many singers tell me they’d like to get to a point where they can just open their mouths and sing. For a tiny fraction of exceptional singers, this MIGHT be possible. But all singers - even the most talented, have to do some kind of preparation before they sing - including when they warm up.
Your voice is an instrument, and just like any other instrument there are things you need to do before you play it.
A guitarist needs to know how to hold the guitar, where to put their fingers, and how to strum or pick a string - at the very least - before they try to make a sound.
A saxophonist needs to know how to blow through the mouthpiece the right way (ever tried to play a sax?).
It even takes a few goes to make a sound when you blow air across a bottle top!
And it’s no different when you sing.
All of my singers know how to prepare before they even think about making a sound: the pitch, the resonating chamber, the sound they want to make, they tone they want to create and where to place the resonance in order to create the sound. Like good drivers, good singers are constantly aware of what they’re doing, and how to prepare for what’s coming up. That’s why they hit the right notes, project without cracking, and use good breath control for emotional variation.
If you’re recording, gigging, or rehearsing for shows and you’ve been trying to improve your singing but not making the right type of progress, it’s probably time to try something different.

Hitting high notes is exciting. But if the rest of your voice is working too hard to get you there, those notes won’t feel reliable for long.
Balance matters just as much as range.
A balanced voice helps you move between low, middle and high notes without everything changing dramatically. You’re not supposed to suddenly push more air, lift your chin, tighten your jaw or throw extra effort at the top notes.
When your voice is balanced, high notes feel easier, the tone stays more consistent, and you have more control over volume, phrasing and expression.
So yes, work on your range.
But don’t make the highest or most powerful note the only measure of progress.
A voice that feels steady, responsive and balanced across the whole range will serve you far better than one impressive note you can only hit on a good day.

You are allowed to want what you want.
Not the sensible version.
Not the version that sounds impressive enough to explain to other people.
Not the version you think you should want.
The actual thing.
A bigger career. More freedom. More money. Better work. A different sound. A quieter life. A headline show. A tiny loyal audience. A completely new direction.
And this is where I’m mildly allergic to journals filled with random affirmations and “Go Queen!” energy that leave you feeling briefly inspired and exactly where you started. 😂
A Life In Full Voice isn’t a fancy notebook designed to make ambition look pretty.
It gives you structure to explore what you want, what’s influencing the way you sing, create and build your career, what keeps getting in the way — and what you’re actually going to do next.
Because wanting something matters.
But eventually your vision needs decisions, action and follow-through.

How has your singing been this week? It’s easy to focus on the bit you can’t do and forget that the technique that used to take several attempts, is starting to feel more natural.
Keeping a journal helps you see what helped, what keeps coming up and what you’d like to work on next.
That’s why I included weekly reflection in A Life In Full Voice. The questions help you make sense of your practice and decide where to put your attention the following week. A blank notebook gives you space. A Life In Full Voice gives you questions that help you decide what to work on, recognise what’s changing and take your next step as a singer.
What’s one thing in your singing that feels easier now than it used to?

Your singing deserves direction. Your ambitions deserve a plan.
I love notebooks, journals and planners, and I’ve always had more than one on the go since I was 17. But I’ve never found one with the space and structure for everything.
So I made one!
But it’s not just a fancy planner with a couple of extras. It helps creatives like us approach our singing and music careers like an aligned CEO.
I created A Life in Full Voice: The Voice & Vision Journal to help you connect what you do in practice with what you want to achieve.
Its guided prompts help you choose your priorities, capture useful discoveries, explore what’s getting in your way and turn your ideas into meaningful action. There’s space to review your progress too — including the achievements you might otherwise overlook.
This isn’t the book I mentioned a few weeks ago — that’s now scheduled for publication in early 2027. This is more of a combined workbook and journal for singers at every level, with particular value for those building a professional singing career.
Developing your voice, finding your creative direction and following through on your ambitions all need attention.
Your voice. Your vision. Your next move.
What’s one thing you’d love to achieve with your singing? Let me know in the comments.

You don’t need to feel confident before you use your voice.
Often, confidence comes after the action.
You sing the song.
You speak up.
You post the video.
You ask for what you need.
You walk onto the stage.
And your system gradually learns: I can do this.
Sometimes what looks like a confidence problem is really about being seen, taking up space, trusting yourself, or making decisions.
A better question might be:
What would I do if I didn’t need to feel completely confident first?
That’s where confidence often begins.

I’ve co-authored 7 (yes, 7 - crazy!) books. I’ll soon be publishing my first full book.
The Voice Revolution is not another book full of vocal exercises. I share my breakthrough method that is helping singers beyond technique, to liberate their voices, enhance their personal lives and accelerate their singing careers.
But I can’t on the cover. Which do you prefer?

Is this you?
You can sing the phrase beautifully at home. Then you start singing in front of people and your high note packs a tiny suitcase.
That tells us something useful.
If you can sing “confidently” in rehearsal, then tighten up when it matters, it makes sense to think “more confidence” is the answer. But confidence may be the symptom, rather than the solution.
When we ask questions, rather than assuming to know the answer straight away, we can uncover what’s really going on.
Ask yourself this: what changes when the stakes rise? Your breathing, muscle coordination, attention and expectations may all shift before you reach the note.
More confidence can help with performance, but we can’t get it on prescription!
How might this approach change your relationship with your voice?

You’ve watched the tutorials.
You’ve done the exercises.
You’ve had singing lessons.
So why are you still stuck?
The answer isn’t always another technique.
Sometimes the real breakthrough comes from discovering why your voice keeps returning to the same place.
That’s what I help singers uncover.
Because when you solve the right problem, your voice often changes much faster than you expected.
If you’ve reached the point where you’re wondering, “Why isn’t this working?”, watch this video.

As I’m so busy supporting my 1:1 singers, I don’t have as much time to make videos as I used to. I receive lots of questions in the comments and directly, and most I can answer by sending an existing tutorial, or by making a new video and sending it.
For the rest of the questions I thought I’d record a Q & A session so that I can address each topic with the depth it deserves.
Got questions? Post them here or send them to: carrie@secretvocalacademy.com.
