Beautiful Jazz In The Night

he hum of the modern world fades away as we step under the soaring, curved concrete arches of a quiet, glass-walled airport departure terminal in the autumn of 1958.

If you are looking for a peaceful sanctuary to quiet your mind tonight, we invite you to grab a warm window seat. Settle into a curved modernist armchair under the warm, comforting glow of frosted-globe lamps, and look out over the wet, shimmering runways. Outside, massive silver Lockheed Constellation propeller planes idle quietly on the tarmac under towering pools of amber light, as a gentle midnight drizzle streaks across the glass.

Our final travel-themed long-form video, "Nocturnal Terminals of the Jet Age," is officially live on the channel].

For this late-night flight, the soundtrack is anchored in airy, pensive West Coast cool jazz—combining a sparse acoustic piano, double bass, and the softest brushed cymbals in the style of Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker. The tempo is kept strictly in the sleep-safe 60 to 65 BPM range, layered continuously over a soothing background of humming propeller engines, the soft, rhythmic clicking of a vintage split-flap arrivals board, and the quiet ring of terminal chimes echoing through the empty concourses.

Dim the lights, turn the volume down low, and let the gentle drone of the engines carry you away.

📖 Where on the map are you listening from tonight? Let us know in the comments below.

Beautiful Jazz In The Night

In the late winter of 1959, Copenhagen became a sanctuary. A group of legendary American jazz musicians, seeking refuge from the systemic racism of home, crossed the Atlantic and found a deeply respectful, warm, and welcoming community in Denmark. The narrow cobblestone alleys of the Latin Quarter became their streets, and the brick-vaulted caverns of Jazzhus Montmartre became their living room.
Our newest three-hour session, Copenhagen After Hours (1959), is now live on the channel. It tells the story of this safe harbor, tracing a quiet night from a saturated amber sunset over the Nyhavn canals to the hushed, fireside warmth of a mid-century apartment.

Sonically, the mix leans into a deeply soulful, spacious Bill Evans-inspired piano trio, paired with the breathy, late-night restraint of a close-mic'd tenor saxophone.
Settle into a comfortable chair, dim the lights, and let this peaceful sanctuary keep you company through the night. The link to the full three-hour session is waiting in our featured playlist.

Beautiful Jazz In The Night

We have opened the doors to our newest late-night sanctuary.

Tonight’s three-hour release, Grand Hotel After Midnight, brings you out of the cold city rain and into the quiet safety of a mid-century hotel. Listen to the slow, soft crackle of a library fireplace, the gentle hum of a vacuum-tube amplifier, and the fragile restraint of Chet Baker-style muted trumpet jazz.

The full session is now available on our main channel, and we have integrated these select nocturnal recordings into our continuous 24/7 live broadcast.

Find a comfortable armchair, dim the lights, and settle in with us tonight.

We have launched a 24/7 rotating journey through our complete library of 1940s and 1950s jazz. The stream constantly shifts through the world's great jazz cities—from the smoky basement clubs of Chicago and Harlem, to the humid warmth of Bourbon Street, the slow blues of the Rust Belt, and the quiet dawn over the Seine.

It is designed to run in the background for late-night lounging, deep work, reading, or falling asleep. Leave it on, let the music play, and let the city slow down.

What time is it where you are tuning in, and what is the weather like right now? Let me know in the comments.

New 3-hour sessions will continue dropping every few days.

Beautiful Jazz In The Night

New long-form is up — The Reno Club, Last Call. Three hours.

A long evening on 12th & Vine, told from the angle of the era's quiet close. Kansas City after Pendergast, after the wide-open all-night town — when the rooms had thinned to a handful of holdouts and the music had gone blues-deep. Count Basie's old KC sound, Mary Lou Williams and Jay McShann at the piano, Buck Clayton on muted trumpet, brushes and walking bass. Slow, late, played for itself.

Best heard on the second cup of coffee, the hour you keep just for yourself, or a slow drift toward sleep.

A new long-form every few days. The next one — Paradise Valley After Dark, the Detroit set — drops Wednesday.

New long-form is up — Cool Light on the Pacific. Three hours.

A drift down the California coast at the Lighthouse-Cafe / Pacific-Jazz-Records moment of the 1950s. Mulligan-Baker pianoless quartets, muted trumpet, brushed drums, the kind of restraint that made cool jazz cool.

Best heard on the drive home, the second cup of coffee, or the hour you keep just for yourself.

A new long-form every few days. The next one — Bourbon Street — drops Wednesday.
