After spending 10 years onboard Royal Caribbean as a Bar Server and Senior Bar Server, I’m sharing what I personally experienced during my time at sea.

🚢 WHY CRUISE SHIP APPLICANTS GET REJECTED EVEN WITH COMPLETE REQUIREMENTS

Akala mo kapag complete na ang requirements mo, sure na ang chance mong makasampa ng cruise ship? Not necessarily!

The truth is, having complete documents doesn’t automatically mean you’re qualified for the job.

Here are some reasons why applicants still get rejected:

1️⃣ Weak Resume – Hindi malinaw ang work experience, skills, and qualifications mo. Remember, your resume is your first impression.

2️⃣ Lack of Relevant Experience – Complete nga ang documents mo, pero hindi naman tugma ang work experience mo sa position na ina-applyan mo.

3️⃣ Poor Interview Performance – Hindi confident sumagot, hindi prepared sa common interview questions, or hindi maipaliwanag nang maayos ang previous work experience.

4️⃣ Lack of Communication Skills – Especially sa positions na may direct interaction with guests, important ang ability mong makipag-communicate in English.

5️⃣ Unprofessional Attitude – Confidence is good, pero dapat may professionalism, respect, and a positive attitude.

6️⃣ Not Meeting the Job Requirements – Every position has different qualifications. Hindi porke qualified ka sa isang department ay automatic qualified ka na rin sa iba.

7️⃣ Competition – Remember, hindi lang ikaw ang applicant. Sometimes, there are other candidates with stronger experience, skills, and interview performance.

💡 MY ADVICE TO ALL ASPIRING SEAFARERS:

Don’t focus only on completing your documents. Focus on improving yourself as a candidate.

✔️ Build a professional and ATS-friendly resume.
✔️ Gain relevant work experience.
✔️ Practice your English communication skills.
✔️ Prepare for your interview.
✔️ Learn about the position and responsibilities you’re applying for.

Remember, COMPLETE REQUIREMENTS CAN HELP YOU APPLY, BUT YOUR SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND PERFORMANCE CAN HELP YOU GET HIRED.

Don’t lose hope if you get rejected. Learn from the experience, improve, and try again!

❓ Kailangan ba muna ng Seaman’s Book bago mag-apply?
❓ Puwede ba mag-submit ng application kahit wala pa?
❓ Kailan mo talaga kailangan ang Seaman’s Book?
❓ Kailangan ba may sea experience muna?

👉 Hindi pare-pareho ang requirements sa lahat ng company, position, at stage ng application. Kaya importante na alam mo kung ano ang current requirements bago ka gumastos o mag-process ng documents.

👨‍🍳 Galley Utility – A great starting point if your dream is to become a Cook or Chef.
