Looking back at Cole Houshmand’s 2026 Ballito Pro win, it’s pretty remarkable to see what followed.
Ballito title → a few heats at the US Open in Huntington → CT win at Cloudbreak → now into Finals Day at Trestles.
After a tough first half of the season, something clearly clicked in Ballito. 🤙🏽
Was pretty rad to watch it unfold up close — both in the water and behind the scenes.

BEAUTIFUL… BUT DON’T TOUCH! 🪼🌊
Bluebottles and jellyfish are one of those things that are part of everyday life on South African beaches.
They can wash up in huge numbers — and even when they’re lying on the sand, those tentacles can still sting.
After years of surfing KZN beaches, I’ve had my fair share of encounters with these guys! 😂

WHEN METALLICA SURFED IN DURBAN 🤘🏽🌊
Found this old photo from 2006, when Metallica were in South Africa for the Coca-Cola Colab Massive Mix.
I got to spend a few days surfing in KZN with Kirk Hammett and Rob Trujillo — this photo was taken on the Durban beachfront.
A pretty random combination of worlds… heavy metal and Durban surf! 😂🤙🏽
They were actually keen surfers, and Kirk and Rob even picked up surfboards while they were here.
Anyone remember Metallica being in Durban in 2006? 🤘🏽🌊

🌊 DURBAN SURFING HISTORY — GUNSTON 500 🇿🇦
Found this incredible old photo from the 1994 Gunston 500 at North Beach, Durban, captured by legendary Durban surf photographer Pierre Tostee.
Richie Collins went on to win the event, with Kelly Slater finishing runner-up.
Just look at that crowd on the Durban beachfront — and the old Jo Kools in the background. 😎
The Gunston 500 was one of the biggest events on the South African surfing calendar, bringing many of the world’s best surfers to Durban.
Hard to believe this was more than 30 years ago.
Who remembers the Gunston 500 days? 🌊👇🏽
