I am the only trucker in my family, but as a single child to my parents, that's not hard:) I love driving anything with wheels - cars, trucks, heavy equipment. I've driven across Europe and now North America.

Another somewhat quick turnover, a bit boring in general and did find some interesting things about WW2 (not that I knew a lot beforehand).
But the biggest takeaway is that for my upcoming races I need some Pervitin, Benzedrine sulfate etc... Some strong German engineered Gestapo medical grade "help", if in 1940s they had that effect... Preset time I think I would be able to fly

Woah, blasted trough this one. Guess coming from the slow or non-existent pace of War and Peace to this one was a shock to the system.
I started with book 11 a while back and in this first book I was pleasantly surprised that some characters from the latter books made an appearance.
Really enjoyed and as always the narrator is doing a fantastic job.

Another Russian book that I am listening and there's no Russian accent or even a French accent I can do better French accent and Russian accent myself.

The funniest thing in the Hall book it is not book related but When the Reader tried to whistle and the poor lady could not whistle if her life depended on it. I can't whistle my self but that attempt was hilarious, I died laughing, absolutely belly roll laughter.

The summary of the book is lots and lots and lots of waiting for a culmination point and then that culmination point is meaningless doesn't rise up to the expectation or to the extended waiting period for that culmination point very few occasions in the book you got a glimpse that the culmination point might be good.

One point particularly pissed me right off, night race between two troika's in winter (if I recall) basically at the lantern\candle light between crooked dirt roads, might as well be blind.... very detailed depiction of the "race" and characters and the mood....I'm like, o shit someone gonna miss the corner, fall in river, hit a tree, brake a wheel cause it's too intense.... let's go, finally some action in the book .... The peasant's from the intended destination estate, heard (somehow) the horses and came out at the gate to meet the guests, the end. Bogdan rage ensues 😂

If you like very high detail's of everything as in, his pinky was a bit pale but only half raised and in this small gesture with the touch of the lips (hold your horses) of the tea cup (not that kind of a book) had a warmth feeling, like if you listen to all of these details and you can be transported in that particular time and place, then, yes the book will transport you there, for me it didn't work.

The end was the best part, not because I finally finished it ( close 2nd ) but that the Leo in all his wisdom ended with what is actually a conquered country, what is leadership, what is history and what is free will? Debating and reinventing the meaning of all of terms, constructs ( strong points ) for what my interpretation is to prove that Russia was never conquered by Bonaparte just Moscow and unlike the other pathetic countries where they submitted the motherland never did. This twist in the final hour's I did not expect and it was an welcomed happy ending that I fully uphold and agree.

Blasphemy of a book! They use heathen numbers and, even worse, they use stones for weight... who on earth knows what a stone is in kilograms? The audacity is bewildering.

Aside from that minor inconvenience and the multitude of climbing jargon that I couldn't quite grasp or picture (which, surprisingly, didn’t detract from the experience, good writing!), it was a very pleasant listen.

In multiple instances, the narrator says, "and I swore at the void," and I’m just thinking... well, let me hear it! Personally, I think in those tense moments the book creates (which are fantastic), a well-bellowed swear would have really hit the spot.

The story really ramps up once you experience the second perspective. While listening to Perspective A, you find yourself anxious for Perspective B, never knowing when it will arrive or what part of the story it will cover. Brilliant.

Overall, a good choice, far better than other books I’ve listened to from mediums I’m less familiar with.

So..in general I thought about myself that I have decent imagination (but as with all things, context is important) until I listen to this... whatever this was that I listened.
When you think there's some hints at real life ( like wink wink we talking about X personality) it takes a wildly left turn that for the first sentences you are like.... WTF, where did that come from.
I chuckled a few times, it was funny but not rolling on the floor it was good to listen (especially by Mr Steven Fry at the mic) but weird (understatement).
I'm perplexed, I feel "dirty" in a way for listening but want to listen more......
Recommend 😂

This one I enjoyed a lot, always keeping me curios and making me skip a lot of desired podcast episodes.
I think this is the first one from the series, or the first one that I recall where at the end of the book it leaves you with a clear cliffhanger or a clear, there's another book coming, it must be.
Since I did not start from the first book in the series, I am going to backtrack and start from book 1 until 9/10 where I climbed on board.

Gypsy King - I think this is my PB in terms of audiobooks, 1 day and done.

I'm not a boxing fan but I'm a fan of sports in general (proper sports) so knew and was curious about Tyson's story.

First let down - he didn't narate it and the bloke who did, I just didn't vibe at all so I had to push through that;

Second let down - within the first half hour I realized what kind of autobiography it is, it's a, what I consider, general one just to have an autobiography;

Third let down - no Wilder 2.0 , no Usyk....nope!;

Fourth - while I don't doubt the seriousness of the issues he is discussing the way he framed it (me, having context of other autobiography with people that had some difficult moments) felt for me more like a book of excuses ( felt does the heavy lifting here) like how professional racing driver's have, for me personally I didn't feel "inspired" or OMG what I can also do.... maybe I'm to broken for it to work on me.

So, yeah....4 out of 10 and I'm being extra generous.
I will never regret listening \ reading a book, but this one is quite low....not as low as the Mel Robbins books I had the misfortune of listening but quite low.

I think my first book from "the classics" category. Disappointed that narrator didn't have a lick of Russian accent, that would have been a great addition.
What surprised me is the "timing" if there's such a thing in writing... for me throughout the book it happened multiple times. While I was getting close to bordem about a subject, story, focus on some character's like the book was reading my mind and next chapter switch of scenery was happening, apon realisation it was a weird kind feeling. Maybe I'm crazy 🤣.
The book did evoke in me feelings of hatred, frustration and compassion witch makes it a good listen, but no Russian accent and the ending was kind of a letdown, compared to what I was expecting.

My second book of Mr Alan Alda and it was a good back down to earth book from him.
The fanboy hype and bias that I had in the first dimmed and left a more neutral memory of him in my mind.
I'm am glad that I went beyond Hawkeye and discovered him as a person, dad and life in general.
This second book is less life and more life wisdom spread across speeches that he did at various prestigious university's, while good it was a tad less entertaining for me personally.
