The 2017-P Lincoln Penny: The Stealth Anniversary CoinHistorically, the Philadelphia Mint never put a "P" mint mark on one-cent coins (standard Philadelphia pennies simply have no mint mark at all).

Why it was made: To celebrate the 225th anniversary of the U.S. Mint.

The Twist: The Mint released these coins into regular circulation without warning in early 2017. Collectors suddenly began noticing a small "P" stamped under the date.

Mintage & Rarity: Over 4.3 billion were minted. Because they were heavily produced for general circulation, they are incredibly common.

Value: Most 2017-P pennies you find in your pocket change are only worth face value (1 cent). However, pristine, uncirculated specimens graded by professionals at MS-67 or higher can sell for $25 to $90+.

The 2019-W Lincoln Penny: The Premium Set Bonus

While the West Point Mint had technically struck cents in the past to help with circulation demands, those coins never carried a mint mark.

Why it was made: The 2019-W marked the first time in history that a penny openly displayed the "W" mint mark.

The Twist: You cannot find these in everyday pocket change. They were never released into circulation. Instead, they were packaged in clear plastic wrap and included as a "premium bonus" for people who purchased official U.S. Mint collector sets.

Finishes Available: Depending on the collector set purchased, the U.S. Mint issued them in three finishes: Uncirculated (from the Uncirculated Coin Set), Proof (from the standard Proof Set), and Reverse Proof (from the Silver Proof Set).

Mintage & Rarity: Highly limited compared to regular pennies, with mintages ranging roughly between 340,000 and 415,000 depending on the specific finish.

Value: Because they were never circulated, even loose "raw" versions generally fetch $5 to $20. Certified near-flawless examples (graded MS-69 or PF-69) routinely sell for $60 to $140+
