It was great to be with the comrades, delegates and supporters at the Trench Town Divisional Conference alongside Cde Cllr Sarah Marshall.

The energy, commitment and determination in Trench Town are a powerful reminder that real change is built community by community. Together, we will continue working to build a stronger South St Andrew and a better Jamaica for all.

Members of the Opposition People’s National Party have joined a protest in Cross Roads, St Andrew.

The protest, which began at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, is centred on concerns about institutional integrity, humanitarian and fiscal accountability, and national capacity and sovereignty as it relates to the Government’s Memorandum of Understanding with the United States to facilitate the temporary transit of third-country nationals through Jamaica.

Nickeisha Burchell says she has no intention of apologizing to Speaker of the House Juliet Holness following the backlash surrounding comments she made during a recent interview about Mrs. Holness’ handling of parliamentary proceedings.

The PNP Member of Parliament for South St. James has been under heavy criticism after comparing the Speaker’s leadership style to that of controlling individuals, comments which quickly sparked outrage from several Government MPs and social media users.

However, Burchell insists that her statements were not meant to personally attack Juliet Holness, but instead were aimed at highlighting what she believes is the difference between maintaining order in Parliament and attempting to control elected representatives.

“When I sought to share my experience working with the current speaker, it wasn’t a personal attack,” Burchell said while defending the remarks.

She further explained that she made analogies during the interview to describe her point.

“There is a distinct difference between maintaining order in Parliament and controlling. One can control in the way school marms control schoolyards because those are children. However, control has no place in Parliament where adults are elected by their constituents and sent to represent them as equals,” she stated.

Despite the mounting criticism, Burchell made it clear that she will not retract her comments or issue an apology to the Speaker of the House.

Her remarks were publicly condemned by Foreign Affairs Minister Kamina Johnson Smith, Finance Minister Fayval Williams, and State Minister Juliet Cuthbert Flynn, who all described the statements as disrespectful and inappropriate.

Burchell, however, pushed back against the criticism and suggested that the responses from the Government MPs were politically coordinated.

“When I see the orchestra arranged with three women from the Government benches taking time away from their portfolios to respond, it says a lot,” Burchell stated.

She also suggested that the female parliamentarians were being used as “pawns in a written script,” while insisting that she would not be silenced amid the growing political controversy.

The situation has since triggered widespread debate online, with many Jamaicans divided over whether Burchell’s comments crossed the line or were simply criticism directed at the Speaker’s management of Parliament.

It was also truly special to reconnect today with the Leader of the Opposition Mark Golding after not seeing each other for quite some time.

We spent many years serving together in Cabinet as Ministers of Government during one of the most defining periods of my political life, and there was something deeply grounding about sitting together again after everything that has unfolded over the years, both politically and personally.

Politics is an unusual life. It is intense, consuming, deeply public, and often misunderstood from the outside. Mark and I once stood on the same platform, shared responsibility for national leadership, and later found ourselves competing for the leadership of the People’s National Party during one of the most difficult and transitional periods in its modern history.

When I eventually stepped away from politics, many people were surprised. Some were upset. Others were genuinely perplexed by the decision.

But life has a way of clarifying what only time can explain.

Today we spoke about Jamaica, leadership, international commerce, and the changing realities of the world we are all now navigating. But we also spoke simply as two people who understand what it means to carry the responsibility of public life for many years.

What stayed with me most was how genuinely proud he was of what I have built with @lisahannabeauty and my transition into global entrepreneurship.

And truthfully, that meant a great deal to me.

Because when someone who knew you through one chapter of your life can recognize the continuity between who you were then and who you are becoming now, it reminds you that purpose does not disappear. It evolves.

For me, this journey was never about abandoning one world to enter another. It was about carrying forward everything I learned about leadership, negotiation, resilience, identity, visibility, and human psychology into a different arena.

And in many ways, this chapter feels less like reinvention and more like alignment.

Thank you, Mark, for the conversation, the warmth, and the encouragement. It was genuinely lovely seeing you again.

Many Jamaicans online are continuing to call on MP Nekeisha Burchell to apologize to House Speaker Juliet Holness after making comments about her marriage to Prime Minister Andrew Holness during a recent podcast interview.

According to several social media users, Burchell crossed the line by bringing Juliet Holness’ personal relationship into a political disagreement that was originally about patois and parliamentary rules. Many persons believe political debates should remain professional and should never involve comments about someone’s marriage or family life.

Supporters of Juliet Holness say the Speaker was simply carrying out her duties by enforcing Parliament’s standing orders and argue that she did not deserve to have her marriage dragged into the controversy. Others also believe Burchell should publicly apologize and focus the discussion back on the issue of patois in Parliament rather than personal remarks.

The situation continues to spark strong reactions online, with many Jamaicans debating whether Burchell’s comments were fair criticism or whether they went too far.
