All about our feathered friends, as well as some of the individual wild birds that I have known for over a decade. I hope to get people more interested in birds realizing just how incredible they are. It's a rewarding experience that connects you with nature!

I love how distinct-looking this Blue Jay is. Her name is Snow White, and what inspired her name is how pale she is compared with most other Blue Jays. π¦
She has a lot of white in her face and very little of the bold black facial markings we normally associate with Blue Jays. Even the rest of her plumage is unusually light. The blue along her back is very pale and almost whitish in some areas. π©΅π€
Many people have asked how I can tell whether a Blue Jay is male or female. Unlike species such as Northern Cardinals, male and female Blue Jays donβt have obvious differences in plumage that make their sex easy to identify just by looking at them.
For me, it mostly comes down to behavior and vocalizations, along with spending a lot of time observing them. It also helps tremendously that I can recognize many of the individual Blue Jays I see regularly. Once I learn an individual birdβs appearance, habits, relationships, and behavior, it becomes much easier to piece together who is who - and, over time, whether that bird is male or female.
Snow White is one of those jays I can recognize almost instantly. π©΅π€.

What part of my latest video about Paddy, the single father chickadee, was most memorable to you?
One of mine was watching him puff himself up and try to intimidate a chipmunk when it wandered a little too close to his nest. For such a tiny bird, Paddy certainly knew how to make himself look tough! π€π€
If you havenβt seen Paddyβs story yet, you can watch it here: https://youtu.be/lCiOO_QnIgI?si=N5sEH...

This is the kind of photo I love to capture! Blue jays in action, with their blue wings spread against a beaming autumn backdrop, is just a chef's kiss to me π©΅π€π¦
The blue jay on the left is Snow White, the distinct female blue jay I've known for a few years. π©΅π€

I've wanted to share these chickadees ( Mullet and Chickie) for a while but wasn't able to. Now, with the full story released in Sunday's video I can π€π€ The first 5 are of just Mullet and the last 3 are of Chickie π€π€
I haven't had the time to sit down and respond to the sweet comments many of you left. I will make a point of doing that over the next day or two. Much love π¦π€π€
For any one who hasn't seen the new video here it is π https://youtu.be/lCiOO_QnIgI?si=N5sEH...

Cute level: completely unreasonable! πβΊοΈ
This young Black-capped Chickadee was curiously watching me today. Iβm not familiar with this little one, but it sure knew how to ham it up for the camera.π€π€π¦

A sweet dose of Speckle cuteness π€π€
Speckle is a lovely Boreal Chickadee with distinct little white feathers on his forehead and at the corner of his right eye. Theyβre one of those helpful individual characteristics that let me know itβs him π
Every year when he molts, those same little white feathers grow back, almost like nature gave him his own tiny signature. π€π€
Isn't he adorable? π
Just a side note. I'm still plugging away at the video about a chickadee who nested in my yard. It's coming along and although I had hoped to have it up for tomorrow (Sunday Sept, 20th) but it will have to wait until next Sunday (Sept, 27th). I'm very much looking forward to sharing it with you all. β£οΈ
Have a wonderful rest of your weekend ππ¦

Meet a few of my adorable little camera crew π¦π They may not know much about operating a DJI, but they certainly look the part! Especially the Blue Jay who looks to be particularly serious about his job, "Like there'd better be something usable on that memory card." π©΅π
I think it's safe to say that between the wonderful new feeder and the bird bath, the birds in this yard are very happy and that makes me happy π₯°

Just popping in to say; I hope you're having a wonderful day. π€
The bird in the photo is, Frosty the Blue jay. Take notice of the white feathers on his forehead-- that's what inspired his name π©΅π¦π
